BEAMER.
SPECIFICATION forming Apart of Letters Patent No. 278,873, dated June 5, 1883. 4
Application filed May 2, 1S82.- (No model.)
To all zowm it may concern,.-
Beit known that I, EDwAnD CADio-or', of Adams, in the county-of Berkshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and 5 useful Improvement in Beamers, of which thev following is a full, clear, and exact description. lThis invention consists of the combination, with the perforated plate or copper of a beamer,
of perforated strips of sheet metal arranged io over the alternate rows of holes in the copper of ordinary use, and an adjusting device whereby the alternate rows of threads may be readily shifted for taking .a lease, so that the lease-cords may be passed between the rows.
The said strips are located close to the side of the copper, so that the copper and the strips can be threaded 'at once, and thus save the second operation of threading the harness, as in the common arrangement.
The intention also consists of a comb of metal or wooden teeth, equal in number to the Vertical rows of threads in the beamer-copper, combined with the beamer-copper, as hereinafter fully described.
2 5 Reference is to be had to the acconumnying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of 4reference indicate corresponding' parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a front elevation of inyimproyed 3o beamer with some of the strips broken out.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional elevation of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line v1/ 1/ of Fig. 2, and also shows the teeth of the lease-comb; and Fig. A is a front elevation of the lease-comb which l use to facilitate the leasing.
AA is the pertbrated copper. as commonly used, haring the perforations B for the threads.
(Jrepresents the peribrated strips of sheet metal, which I arrange upon the plate A,with each alternate row of holes B and with the holes D of the said strips coinciding with the holes B of the plate A, so that the threads E may be inserted through said plate and the 4 5 strips at the same time. Holes D are made larger t-han holes B to facilitate the threading of the beamer.
taken a few turns of the screw will set the alternate threads of a row aside from the remaining ones, so that the lease-cords can be 6o readily passed between the threads; but, for greater certainty of inserting the lease cords correctly, I employ a lease-comb consisting of teeth K attached to ahead or bar, L, the same distance apart as the vertical rows of holes in 6 5' the copper A, and being as longor a little longer than the height of the copper, by in serting said teeth between the separa-ted thread a suitable distance in advance of the copper to insure the perfect sepa-ration of the threads 7o while the lease-cords are being inserted.
Haring thus fully described my invention,
I claim new and desire to secure by Letters Patent l.. The combination, with the perforated 75 plate A of a beamer, of the strips C, arranged over the alternate horizontal rows of holes of the plate, and provided with holes coinciding with the holes of the said plate, and means for adjusting said strips thereon, substantially as 8o and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with the perforated plate A, perforated strips C, and stud-pins J, of the connecting-bar F and adiusting-serew H, substantially as specified. A 8 5 3. The combination of the lease-comb K L, with the beamer-copper A. and the thread-adjusting strips C, substantially as specified.
.EDVARD CADIGON.
