Y., assignor to Mills Industries, Incorporated, a corporation of Illinois Application April 1, 1948, Serial No. 18,444
3 Claims. (Cl. 194-2) This invention relates to coin operated vending machines and more particularly to a coin operated release mechanism and change-maker adapted for use in conjunction with vending machines from which articles of merchandise may be selectively vended from a plurality of chutes or columns.
An important object of the invention is to provide a coin controlled release mechanism which will operate to free a vending device for a single vending movement when a predetermined number of coins have been received by said release mechanism.
Another object of the invention is to provide a release mechanism of the character described which may be selectively adjusted to free said vending device for operation to vend a twenty-five cent article of merchandise, for example, when a U. S. quarter or any combination of nickels and dimes equal to twenty-five cents has been received by said mechanism.
A further object of the invention is to provide a release mechanism of the above character which may be selectively adjusted to release a vending device for a single vending movement to discharge a ten-cent, fifteen-cent or a twenty-cent article of merchandise when any combination of nickels or dimes equal to the value selected have been reecived by the release mechanism.
Still another object of the invention is to provide in combination with a vending device embodying means for selectively vending articles from a plurality of chutes or the like, a release mechanism of the character described which may be selectively adjusted to free said device to vend articles of one price from a majority of said chutes when a combination of coins equal to said price have been received by the mechanism and to likewise free said device to vend articles of a lesser price from the remainder of said chutes when a combination of coins equal to said lesser price have been received. 1
A further object of the invention is to provide in combination with a selectively adjustable release mechanism, of the character stated, for freeing a dispensing device for dispensing operation, a coin dispensing means activated by said release mechanism to dispense a nickel or a dime as change when a coin or coins received by the latter are of a value five or ten cents in excess of the value at which said mechanism is adjusted to free said dispensing device.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide in a release mechanism of the character described, an improved manually operated means for releasing coins therefrom prior to operation of the dispensing device.
A further object of the invention is to provide in a vending machine having a plurality of separate groupsof columns from which merchandise may be selectively vended, a release mechanism of the characterstated conveniently disposed in a space between adjacent groups of said columns.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description of a preferred 2,7 77,554 Patented Jan. 15, 1am
