UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN ATTERS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FRAME FOR CARRIAGE-CURTAIN uci-l'rs. J
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 277,388, dated May 8, 1883.
Application filed February 2, 1883. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN WATTERS, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Frames for Carriage-Curtain Lights, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved construction of metallic frames for carriage curtain lights that combines neatness of finish with complete protectionagainst the weather.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure '1 represents the two members of the frame detached. Fig.2 isatransverse section, showing the completed joint.
A may representa portion of acarriage-curtain, usually of leather lined with cloth the same having an opening, a, slightly larger than the inner opening of the frame.
.13 is a portion of the-light or pane of glass.
0 and D respectively represent the inner and the outer frames, which are stamped out of sheet metal to any desired size and configuration. The frame 0 has a number of slots, 0, to
receive as many clips d, which, projecting from the outer edges of the outside frame, D, are bent toward the center of the frame, as shown in Fig. 1. The light B being inserted in the outside frame, D, with its edge confined by the clip-shoulders, the clip ends are forced through slits prepared in the curtain, and 0 through the slots 0 in frame 0, and clinched around the outer edges of said frame, as shown in Fig. 2. The clips 01, beingprojections of the outer edges of the outside frame, secure close weather-proof contact of said edges with the curtain, and effectually exclude rain'withont exposing the out edges of the curtaimthus securing a neat finish and avoiding decay or rotting of the stud.
I claim as new and of my invention The fastening for carriage-curtain lights, consisting of the combination of slotted inner- JOHN wATrERs.
