Description
1956 c. BRANDENBURG 2,770,827
BATH" BRUSH Filed July 8. 1955 INVENTOR Charlol'i'e Brmrdarzburo'.
ATTORNEY United States Patent Ofice 2,770,827 I'aizented Nov. 20, 1956 BATH BRUSH Charlotte Brandenburg, San Antonio, Tex.
Application July 8, 1955, Serial No. 520,687
1 Claim. (Cl. 15-428) This invention relates to a bath brush, and it particularly relates to a bath brush of the type having an internai source of spray liquid.
The brush of the present invention provides a constant supply of water or other liquid on the operational ends of the bristles, this liquid being permitted to flow through a large number of outlets in the brush adjacent the various bristles, and the flow being even and uninterrupted.
It has, heretofore, been known to provide liquid spray outlets from the interior of a brush adjacent the bristles thereof. However, such previous types of liquid supply brushes have generally been subject to various disadvantages among the primary ones of which was the inadequate circulation of the liquid within the brush. As a result, some of the outlet openings would receive most of the liquid while others would receive practically none. This led to an uneven treatment with the brush wherein some of the bristles were so soggy that their effectiveness was almost completely lost, while other bristles received so little liquid that they were scratchy and irritating to the skin.
It is, therefore, one object of the present invention to provide a bath brush having spray openings therein, wherein all the openings receive an equal supply of liquid from the internal liquid tank in the brush.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a bath brush of the above type, wherein clogging of the spray opening is prevented.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a bath brush of the above type wherein each bristle is so arranged relative to the spray opening that each bristle is fully effective when wetted from the spray openings.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide an improved bath brush, of the character described, that is easily and economically produced, which is sturdy in construction, and which is highly eflicient in operation.
With the above and related objects in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of parts, as will be more fully understood from the following description, when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. l is a general perspective view of a brush embodying the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the brush of Fig. 1, shown partly in section and partly in elevation.
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the brush of Figs. 1 and 2, partly broken away, taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring now in greater detail to the drawing wherein similar reference characters refer to similar parts, there is shown a brush, generally designated 10, and comprising a head 12 and a hollow handle 14. The head 12 comprises a top wall 16, of generally oval shape, provided with a peripheral skirt 18. The skirt 18 is provided, at the bottom rim thereof, with an inwardly extending flange 20 which is arranged to support the liquid tank 22.
The tank 22 comprises a spiral tube 24 which is rectangular in cross-section, as best shown in Fig. 3, and which has an inlet end 26 merging into a tube 28 set in the hollow handle portion. The inlet end of the tube 28 is provided with an annularly ribbed nipple 30 which is adapted to be coupled to a suitable flexible hose, or the like, connected to a source of liquid supply.
The tubing 24 and 28, as well as nipple 30, may be constructed of any desirable material such as aluminum, certain of the vinyl resins, hard rubber, either natural or synthetic, or various other similar materials. The head 12 may be constructed of similar materials, and when made of plastics, may be molded in position, and when made of metal, may have its skirt flange 2t) and the tube portion spun or press fitted into shape.
A handle grip 32, preferably constructed of plastic or hard rubber, surrounds the tube 28 and terminates in the nipple 30. A shoulder 34 is formed in the skirt portion 18 of the head 12, and the inner end of the handle grip 32 closely bears against this shoulder 34.
On the bottom wall of the spiral tubing 24 there are provided a series of openings 36. Between each adjacent pair of these openings 36 is provided a bristle tuft 38. It should be noted that the bristle tufts 38 are so closely positioned to the openings 36 that the liquid sprayed therefrom will impinge upon the working portions of the flared lower ends of the bristles adjacent thereto. Furthermore, the rectangular configuration of the tubing 24 provides a complete utilization of all available space; and this is particularly important in regard to the bottom walls of the tubing where no space is left between adjacent coils of the spiral tubing.
The invention has been described above in relation to a constantly running supply of liquid through the inlet nipple 30. However, it is also possible to use the nipple 30 whereby as a filling nozzle which can be plugged up after filling. The liquid will then be circulated through-the tubing merely by manipulation of the brush. This type of device is particularly advantageous where a liquid soap, oil or other such special fluid is used in the brush, and where a constant flow is neither necessary nor desirable.
Although this invention has been described in considerable detail, such description is intended as being illustrative rather than limiting, since the invention may be variously embodied, and the scope of the invention is to be determined as claimed.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of this invention, what is claimed is:
A bath brush comprising a head, a handle extending from said head, a liquid conduit in said head, said conduit being a spirally shaped tube having its internal end at the center portion of said head and its external end integral with an inlet tube, said inlet tube extending longitudinally through said handle and terminating in an inlet coupling, said spirally shaped tube being rectangular in cross-section and being provided with closelyspaced, alternating bristle tufts and spray openings in the bottom wall thereof, said head comprising a top imperforate wall having a peripheral depending skirt, said skirt having an inwardly extending flange at the lower rim thereof, said flange and skirt embracing said spirally shaped tube at its outer coil.
