Description

(ModeL) B. MILLER. CARRIAGE PAINTERS ADJUSTABLE HORSE 0R JACK. N 276,854,
PatentedMay l, 1883.
\N TNEssSf UNITED STATES BENEDIOK MILLER, OF PAOLA, KANSA S.
PATENT OEFIcE.
CARRlAGE-PAlNTERS ADJUSTABLE HORSE OR JACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 276,854, dated May 1, 1883.
Application filed February 18, 1882. (Model) To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BENEDIOK MILLER, ot' Paola, county of Miami, State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Garriage-Painteis Adjustable Horse or Jack, of which the following is a specification.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, and in which Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the jack or stand minus the block I; Fig. 2, a perspective view of the semicircle with block 1 broken away, and Fig. 3 an enlarged view of the upper end of the upright.
A represents an upright shaft or standard of iron, having its lower end, a, screw-threaded for the purpose of attaching it to the floor of the shop, and thus dispensing with the heavy base which is commonly used and renders the stand unportable, anda collar, (1, which prevents the standard lrom tilting when screwed in place. The upper end of the standard is provided with a vertical slot, a for the semicircle B, and transverse bolt-holes a for bolt 0, which sustains said. semicircle in the slot. At the lower end of the slot are transverse openings at, for pin E, "which serves as a stop for said semicircle. The semicircle B is connected at its ends by across-piece, H. Projectiug upwardly from the center of the crosspiece is a screw-threaded pin, 1), having a set nut or screw, D. From the under side projects a lug, G, having an opening, 0, for the pin 0 to pass through. This pin serves as a pintle for the semicircle to move on. The semicircle is provided with a series of perforations, I), through which the pin E is inserted when it is desired to adjust the semicircle. -Upon the upper side of the cross-piece H is a block, I, which serves as a rest for the bed of the body to be painted. The pin D passes through the block and body and the parts clamped together by set not or screw D.
By this novel arrangement I am enabled to turn the buggy-bed, or any part of a buggy or carriage bed, in any desired position in a horizontal or vertical circle, for the purpose of painting, rubbing down, varnishing, or performing any other worl; .to be done on the.
same.
The various positions in a horizontal circle are effected by turning on the pivot or shank G, the buggy-bed beingheld in any position by tightening the thumb-screw D, While the vertical position or positions in a vertical circle are brought about by turning the whole on the centerO, each position being held by the movable pin E through the standard A and semi- I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let.
ters Patent, is-- l. The combination of a standard having .a vertical slot and an upper and lower set of holes, a semicircle having a series of perfora- V tions, and a cross-piece provided with an upwardly-projecting screw with set-screw, and a downwardly-projecting lug, which is pivoted to the end of the standard, a pin, E, for regulating the angle of the semicircle, and a block resting upon thetop of the cross-piece, all arranged substantially as described.
2. The combination of a standard having screw-threaded end a, collar a, slot a holes a and a, a semicircle having perforations b, cross-piece H, pin D, and set not or screw D, pintle 0, pin E, and block I, all arranged substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
BENEDIGK MILLER.
