BY wfiw HM This invention-relates to a-c-abinet and morespecifically provides -a cabinet tobe positioned in a *corner of afroom 1 and including atop-member for supporting a Christmas tree thereon and an interior portionwhich may be viewed from the outside having a "Chiistmas garden scene 1111216011.
An object of this invention is to provide a cabinet which may be disassembled for storage in a compact area and which includes a top member for supporting an ornamental tree, such as used at Christmas.
Another object of this invention is to provide a cabinet having an enclosed interior with viewing windows in the side wall thereof wherein the interior may be viewed from the outside and a shelf is provided for suitably supporting a display in the interior of the cabinet.
A further object of this invention is to provide a cabinet for displaying an ornamental tree and a companion garden therebelow and including a' control panel for illuminating and otherwise controlling the various features of the display.
Yet another object of this invention is to provide a cabinet which is simple in construction, easy to assemble and disassemble, providing an easily accessible display area and inexpensive to manufacture.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the cabinet of this invention in assembled relation and positioned in the corner of a room;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal, transverse section, taken substantially along section line 22 of Figure 1 showing details of the cabinet structure;
Figure 3 is a group view showing the cabinet structure in exploded or disassembled condition;
Figure 4 is a longitudinal, vertical section taken substantially along section line 44 of Figure 1, showing details of the shelf support; and
Figure 5 is a longitudinal, vertical section taken substantially along section line 5-5 of Figure 1 showing details of the removable panel and the relationship of the panel and the shelf member.
Referring now specifically to the drawings, it will be seen that the numeral generally designates the cabinet of this invention for positioning in a corner of a room generally indicated by the numeral 12 wherein the cabinet 10 may be easily taken apart for storage in a compact condition.
As best shown in Figure 3, the cabinet 10 includes a top panel 14, a plurality of vertical upright supports 16, a shelf member 18, side panels 20 and partial rear panels 22. The shelf member 18 and the top panel 14 are spaced in vertical relation and are generally pentagonal in form with each member having right angularly 10' 'fasteningz meansillz. As will be seen, the p'a'iiels'ZZ are disposed surfaces generally indicated by the nu'meral 24. These right-angular isur faces :24 T are p'o'sitioned 'in the comer-efthe :room 12- and the :r'em'ov'a'blepanels 22 are tpositio'nedi along the right angular 'surfac'e's 24' bet'ween the SheIf IS -and the top "panel 14,.and the topg'pancl 14 has one=fof-its surfaces 24 hi'ngedly connected to'one of th'epanels ZZ-b'ysuitabIe hinge mearts26." and the'lcabinet -ld are clos'ed by the panels 20 which have an undercut portion 38 at their lower edges and are provided with a viewing window 40 adjacent the upper end thereof wherein the viewing windows on the three panels 20 form a sight or viewing area for the upper surface of the shelf and the outer surfaces of the panels 22. The center panel 20 is hingedly connected to one of the vertical uprights 16 by suitable hinge means 42 and a conventional detent and handle 44 is provided to manipulate the pivotal panel 20. The pivotal panel 20 also includes an opening 46 just beneath the window portion 40 and a control panel 48 is positioned in the opening 46 and the control panel 48 includes a plurality of switches 50 for a purpose described here inafter.
The window portion 40 is secured to the panel 20 in a conventional manner with the window seated in a recess formed by spaced members 52 and it will be seen that each panel 20 includes a ledge member 54 for supporting the periphery of the shelf 18 and the upper edges of the panels 20 and the panels 22 are coextensive thereby supporting the undersurface of the top panel member 14 in a horizontal position.
The operation of the device will be readily understood. The shelf 18, top 14, vertical uprights 16 and the front panels 20 are all assembled by use of suitable fastening means, such as indicated by the numeral 32 in conjunction with brackets 30 and it will be seen that the top 14 may be pivoted about hinges 26, thereby providing access to the interior of the cabinet 10 wherein displays on the shelf 18 and the panels 22 may be changed as desired. The top panel 14 is then placed in a horizontal position and a Christmas tree or other ornamental tree is placed thereon and suitable lights for the tree and the display may be manipulated by the switch 50, and if desired, electric trains or other features of the display may be actuated by other switches in the panel 48. The display on the shelf 18 may be changed by pivoting the pivotal panel 20 about the hinges 42 without disturbing the top panel 14 wherein the display may be changed or rearranged without removing the top panel. The device is especially useful in small homes or apartments for displaying a Christmas tree and a companion garden set, and the device may be utilized without the movement of furniture and without employing a great deal of space, as the device fits compactly in the corner of a room. The cabinet of this device retains the Christmas tree in an elevated position wherein children cannot damage it and the garden scene on the shelf and the panels 12 is enclosed to prevent children from handling the toys or the like. Miniature equipment, such as electric trains or accessories may be used in the interior of the cabinet and suitable switches 50 may be used to actuate the miniature equipment, and it will be seen that the lighting effects on the garden scene will be enhanced and easily set up due to the unique arrangement of the shelf 18 and the panels 22. The top panel 14 provides adequate room for Christmas presents or the like to be placed under the tree, and the entire device may be easily disassembled and stored away while not in use. Obviously the panels may be decorated in any suitable manner in harmony with the Christmas tree and garden scene or any other display which may be in use. The elements of the cabinet 10 are constructed of readily obtainable material, thereby enhancing the economic feasibility of the device, and obviously, the specific cabinet of this device may be utilized for many other purposes as may present themselves to the owner of the device.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
A corner cabinet comprising uprights arranged in triangular relation and providing a rear upright and a pair of side uprights, a pair of coplanar braces secured horizontally to and connecting the side uprights to the rear upright, a pentagonal shelf member having right angle rear edges supported by said braces, a pair of upright rear panels rising from and supported by said rear edges of the shelf member and extending from said side uprights to said rear upright, and provided with upper horizontal edges, a pentagonal top member having right angled rear edges extending on and along said top edges of said side panels, said shelf and top members having front portions extending forwardly of said side uprights and provided with semi-hexagonal front edges, and angularly related side and front panels fitting against said semi-hexagonal edges and having glassed-in portions between said shelf and top members and also having ledges thereon supporting said semi-hexagonal edges, said cabinet behind said side and front panels being open below said shelf member.
