WIND-GAGE FOR THRSHING AND CLEANINIG`MACHINE-S SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 276,781, dated May 1, 1883.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known `that I, JOSEPH E. CUEnY,of Lawrence, in the county ot'Douglas and State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Wind-Gage for Thrashing and Cleaning Machines, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
`My invention consists ot' a ball-governor attach ment to the wind-boards ot the fan-blower of cleanin g attachments to thrashingmachines, the object being to provide automatic regulating apparatus, essentially as hereinafter de' by the force of the blast being too great whenever the speed of the machine increases too much by reason of irregularity in feeding and other causes, by which the grain is blown over or back into the elevator., and to admit more wind to clean the grain when the speed ofthe machine decreases.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specilication, in which similar lettersof reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a side elevation ot' the governor and section of thesupporting-base containing the Wind boards or valve of the fan-blower, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section ot' part of Fig..1. y
The side pieces, a, and cross-pieces b, forming the supporting-base for the spindle c of the part of the fan-blower attachment of a cleaning apparatus for thrashing-machines,
through which the wind-blasts of the blower r pass, and which I propose to regulate by thel wind boards or valves d, and a governor connected to them by levers e and ohainsf, said governor consisting of the usual ceutrifugal balls, g, arms h, connecting-rods i, and sleeves lc and l, mounted on the spindlec and geared with the machine by the bevel-wheels m, belt a, and a pulley, o, or by any other approved means.
The contrivance can be readily applied to any machine.
The importance ot' such an attachment will be appreciated by all Whoare familiar with the many causes of irregularity in the speed of thrashing-machines and the great waste of grain caused thereby.
Having thus fully described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The blast-regulating attachment l'or fanblowers ot' thrashers, which consists essentially of the governor g h c' lc c Z, pivoted levers e, boards b, valves d, pivoted or hung to operate in the wind-passages of the blower, said valves heilig connected directly to the said levers, -and the latter being connected directly to the sliding sleeve `ofthe governor, beveled.
