Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
C. L. NELSON AND OSCAR BOSTWICK, OF BURLINGTON, VERMONT, ASSIGNORS TO THEMSELVES AND N. B. PROCTOR, OF SAME PLACE.
WOOD-BENDING MACHINE.
Specicaton of Letters Patent No. 27,672, dated March 27, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, C. L. NELSON and OSCAR Bosiwlcn, both of Burlington, Chittenden County, Vermont, have invented a new and Improved Machine for Bending YWood; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of our invention consists in the combination of feed-rollers with plain forms for the purpose of bending wood and in the manner specified, as will be fully explained by reference to the drawings, where- A, A, represents the feed rollers.
Motion is applied to the shaft of the feed roller A, which being geared to the shaft of A causes them to revolve toward each other and draw the timber and form along which may be inserted between them.
S, S, represents screws working in connection with the boxes of the shaft A, by
means of which the wheel A may be thrown out of gear with A and sit at any distance from A in order to suit various sizes of timbers.
B represents a wheel hung to the guide C so as to press on the timber being fed. B is arranged to be raised and lowered by means of the set screw d. Also the guide C may be adjusted by the screws c, 0.
H represents the clamp binding the timber to the form. The edges and sides of this clamp are to be squared, so that the clamp will maintain its position without slipping by the springing of the timber.
F represents a form, by which is shown the general design of forms which are to be plain and rectangular.
E represents a stick of timber bent to the form F and held in its place by the squared clamp I-I.
The action of the machine is as follows: The end of. form and stick being inserted between the feed rollers A, A', and clamped, the action of the wheels draws the form and stick through after the manner exhibited in the drawing.
I/Vhat we claim as our invention is 1. The use of feed-rollers in combination with plain forms, for the purpose and in the manner specified.
2. Ve claim the adjustable guide marked C in the drawing and adjustable roller B.
We disclaim the use of the iron strap marked B, having been in use before.
