having a tapering end, to which is secured the pointer D.
E is the rod which supports the arms b b b b, to the ends of which are secured the letters N.,E ,W.,S., indicating the four points of compass. Said rod passes freely through the center of the body 0 and shank a, but is fastened to the base B, into which the lower end extends. F is the hub of a revolving windwheel, having two or more fans extending from it, in the present case four fans, 00 c 0', all placed at an angle of about forty-five degrees with the vertical and horizontal plane. A shaft, cl, extends from the center of the hub, which is fitted to turn freely in a hole in the body 0. A gear-pinion, e, is secured to said shaft near the hub.
G is the vane of the machine, secured. to the body opposite the wind-wheel.
H is a shaft fitted to turn freely in bearing, f, on the top side of the vane G, and :a bearing, 9, attached to the body 0.
h is a gear-pinion secured to the end of said sh aft H, to be driven by gear 6. To the opposite end of said shaftis secured the grooved pulley t.
