Description
c. H. FULLER ELECTRIC LIGHT BULB WRENCH Filed May 4, 1954 INVENTOR ATIORNBYS Oct. 9, 1956 te Strate This invention relates to an electric light bulb wrench, the primary object of the invention being to provide a wrench embodying spring fingers adapted to be positioned on electric light bulbs for removing or replacing electric light bulbs in their sockets, particularly when the electric light bulbs are located in out of the way or remote places where they cannot be reached easily,
An important object of the invention is to provide a wrench or" this character incuding a plurality of spring jaws which grip the electric light bulb being removed or replaced, and a iiexible sling hung between said spring jaws icr receiving the electric light bulb which has been removed or is being installed, to prevent the electric light bulb from being accidentally displaced and broken, and at the same time hold the light bulbs against moving within the j ews.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a wrench which is connected to the operating handle of the wrench in such a way that the wrench will automatically adiust itself to the desired angle for operation in removing or replacing electric light bulbs located in sockets mounted on a side wall.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations orf parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the cl rn, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure l is an elevational view of an electric light bulb wrench constructed in accordance with the invention, illustrating the application ofthe wrench.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the wrench, the sling being shown in section.
Fig. 3 is an elevational view of the sling.
2,756,360 Patented 0er.. T956 their ends l@ secured to the `Ferrule S while the opposite ends thereof indicated by the reference character il, are extended outwardly with the extremities thereof extended rearwardly at i2. Supported between the spring jaws 9 of the wrench, is a sling 13 material such as leather, rubber or the like, the sling 13 having extensions ltd that contact the inner surfaces of the spring jaws 9 as better shown by Fig, 2 of the drawing, the extremities of the extensions ld being secured to the jaws 9 by clamping the inwardly turned ends l2 ot the extremities of the jaws into close engagement with the ends oi the extensions 14 of the sling.
From the foregoing it will be seen that in using the electric light bulb wrench, it is only necessary to position the wrench over an electric light bulb, the spring jaws expanding to rmly grip the electric light bulb.
The sling will securely grip the bulb and hold the bulb against accidental displacement as the bulb is being lowered or is being positioned in the socket, and at the same time will provide friction means for preventing the bulb held in the wrench, from turning with respect to the jaws of the wrench,
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
An electric light bulb wrench comprising a ferrule adapted to be positioned over one end of a handle, curved spring jaws secured to said terrule at one of their respective ends, a wide sling constructed of flexible material tted between said spring jaws, elongated extensions formed integral with said sling secured to said spring jaws at the free ends thereof, said sling adapted to conform to the shape of an electric light bulb over which it is positioned, gripping such bulb throughout the entire surface of said sling, removing said bulb when the wrench is rotated in one direction.
