Description
SHAVING CREAM DISPENSER WITH BRUSH APPLICATOR Filed Sept. 14, 1955 IN VEN TORS. MA LTEI? .STAS/(oa/SK I 7714 DDEUS wysa kl Maw 4 7701? MEX United States Patentoi SHAVING CREAM DISPENSER WITH BRUSH APPLICATOR Walter Staskowski, Detroit, and Thaddeus Wysocki, Southfield, Mich.
Application September 14, 1953, Serial No. 379,989 2 Claims. (Cl. -138) This invention relates to a shaving cream dispenser, and more particularly to the type wherein the shaving cream is stored under pressure within a container with a manually operable release valve.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a shaving cream dispenser of this type which has mounted thereon a shaving brush for applying the lather as dispensed from the container.
It is the further object of the present invention to provide a simplified manual control for the shaving lather release valve whereby the shaving cream may be dispensed from the interior of the brush bristles for direct application to the users face.
Heretofore, in constructions of this type the lather was first applied to the users hand and thereafter applied to the face. The present invention has for its further object the use of a brush applied to the container for directly applying the lather.
These and other objects will be seen from the following specification and claims in conjunction with the appended drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of the shaving cream dispenser.
Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3--3 of Fig. l; and
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary enlarged section of the valve mechanism, unseated.
It will be understood that the above drawing illustrates a preferred embodiment of the invention, and that other embodiments are contemplated within the scope of the claims hereafter set forth.
Referring to the drawing, a cylindrical container 11 with bottom 12 and with reduced annular outlet 13 is provided and is adapted to contain a suitable shaving cream C stored therein under pressure.
Formed cap 14 with reverse turned annular flange 15 is immovably secured over the outlet 13 of said container and includes a central elongated cylindrical extension 16 adapted to slidably receive cream conducting tube, 17.
Said tube extends through cap 14 and into the interior of container 11, the left end of said tube being transversely apertured at 18 for receiving shaving cream under pressure'upon manual release of the control valve in the manner hereafter described.
Cup shaped valve 19 with annular out-turned flange 20, normally seats against the undersurface of cap 14 and is maintained seated by the coiled spring 21.
The latter spring is supported within the cup shaped housing 22, which loosely surrounds valve 19 and whose annular outturned flange is secured to cap 14, as by the rivets 24.
The disc 26 is centrally apertured at 29 to receive the outlet end 30 of the dispensing tube 17 for directing face cream in foam form or otherwise to the interior of the brush bristles.
As shown in Fig. 1, a cylindrical collar 31 is secured to tube 17 intermediate its ends and has an annular flange 32 operatively engaged by the transverse central hollow portion 33 of the valve actuating arm 34. Said arm is pivotally supported and retained at its inner end within the recess 35 formed in element 25, with the central portion 33 loosely'receiving the collar 31, and adapted upon manual application of handle 37, for inwardly projecting said tube 17 for unseating valve 19 against the action of spring 21.
The outer portion of the valve actuating arm 34 extends through the transverse slot 36 formed in brush supporting element 25.
By this construction and as illustrated in Fig. 4, which is on an enlarged scale, the slight manual application of handle 37 directs the supply tube 17 inwardly a controlled amount sufficient to unseat the spring-biased valve 19, so that shaving cream in a foam or lather form is supplied to the interior of the brush bristles for direct application to the users face.
Supply pipe 38 is arranged axially of container 11 with one end joined to spring retainer 22 at its inlet opening 23, and with its other end in spaced relation to the bottom 12 of said container.
It is contemplated that the hollow cap or stopper 25 which. supports the brush 2627 may be removable and interchangeable to a fresh container as desired.
Having described our invention, reference should now be had to the claims which follow for determining the scope thereof.
I We claim:
1. A shaving cream dispenser and applicator comprising a hollow container for storing a shaving cream under pressure and having an outlet opening, an apertured cap secured over said outlet opening, a cream delivery tube transversely apertured adjacent its inner end arranged axially of and slidably extending through said cap, a spring-biased valve within said container and with its movable valve element seated against said cap, the inner end of said tube adapted to operatively engage said valve element for unseating the same, to permit the flow of cream into said tube, a hollow centrally apertured stopper positioned over and secured to said cap and having brush bristles projecting therefrom, said tube slidably projecting through said stopper with its outer end adjacent the base of said bristles, an annularly flanged collar secured to said tube within said stopper, and a centrally aperture control arm projecting transversely through said stopper adjacent the collar flange loosely receiving said collar and adapted to operatively engage said flange, with the inner end of said arm pivotally mounted upon said stopper and with its outer end projecting loosely through the stopper, whereby on tilting said arm towards the container said tube may be projected axially inward for unseating said valve.
2. The dispenser of claim 1, said cap having an axial tubular formation on one side to slidably receive said tube, a cup-shaped housing secured to the other side of said cap and having an inlet tube extending therefrom, said housing receiving said valve element therein, said valve element being spaced from the base of said housing,
