Description

Sept. 4, 1956 Filed Oct. 16, 1952 United States Patent LOCKING MECHANISM FOR MOTOR VEHICLE DOORS Karl Wilfert, Stuttgart-Degerloch, and Bla Barnyi, Stuttgart-Ruhr, Germany, assignors to Daimler-Benz Aktiengesellschaft, Stuttgart-Unterturkheim, Germany Application October 16, 1952, Serial No. 314,981
Claims. (Cl. 292-34112) The present invention relates to a locking mechanism for motor vehicle doors wherein the catch, which is operated by the door handle, grippingly engages behind a striker which is fastened to the door post. Frequently, rattling occurs with doors provided with such locking mechanism, especially when the sealing strips, which serve as a strip for the door in closed position, lose their elasticity. Such rattling is ordinarily caused by the movement and the noise connected therewith at the striker or at the catch.
It is, accordingly, an object of the present invention to provide a locking mechanism which prevents rattling during driving in a simple manner and by means of relatively few and simple parts, which do not require much fitting.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a catch and striker which fit accurately with the door in closed position.
In accordance therewith, it is an essential characteristic of the present invention to provide one or several rubber butters directly at the base plate, for example, at the plate fastened to the door, while the stop. and guidance parts therefor are arranged at the other base plate, for example, the striker plate.
Further objects, advantages and features of the present invention will become more obvious from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing which shows for purposes of illustration only one preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention, and wherein:
Figure 1 shows the door post with the base-plate for the striker embedded therein.
Figure 2 shows the door with door lock and door handle and Figure 3 shows an enlarged cross sectional view through the base plate with the striker and stop part for the rubber buffer along line 33 of Figure 1.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing wherein like reference numerals are used throughout the various views to designate like parts, the base plate b for the striker c is screwed to the door post a. The catch e of the door lies behind the inner groove of striker c with the door closed. A cylindrical rubber buffer g is fastened underneath the catch e to the plate f. Rubber buffer g 2,761,72 Patented Sept. 4,
is arranged so as to slide into a stop part h which is firmly arranged at the base plate b. Rubber bufier g lies with the door closed under pressure against the end i of stop part h, so that the catch e is thereby pressed against the back side of the striker c by means of an elastic biasing force, and a rattling of the door is thereby prevented during driving.
By mounting the striker c and the stop part h on the joint base plate b, and by mounting the rubber bufler g on the plate 1, an accurate fit by the various parts is absolutely guaranteed.
In the embodiment illustrated in Figure 3, the stop part h is formed of one piece with the base plate b, and the striker c is embedded in the base plate by means of rubber inserts k. The noiselessness of the lock mechanism of the door is thereby further improved.
The rubber buifer g, instead of being cylindrical, may also be shaped in any other suitable manner.
What we claim is:
l. A motor vehicle door locking mechanism comprising a base plate with a striker and with a stop part and another plate with a catch and with a buffer made of rubber, said stop part being disposed on said base plate perpendicularly to the direction of movement of said rubber buffer, and said rubber bulfer resting against said stop part under pressure with the door in closed position whereby said catch is pressed against said striker by the pressure between said stop part and said bufier when the door is in closed position.
2. A door locking mechanism according to claim 1, wherein said stop part is of substantially U-shaped cross section, which is open in the direction of movement of said another plate in such a manner that during closing of the door the rubber bufier enters said U-shaped cross section from the open side thereof.
3. A door locking mechanism according to claim 1 wherein said stop part is made in one piece with said base plate.
4. A door locking mechanism according to claim 1, further comprising a rubber insert between said striker and said base plate.
5. A door locking mechanism according to claim 1 wherein said catch and said rubber buffer are arranged at said another plate, said another plate being fastened to the door, and wherein said striker and said stop part are fastened to said base plate.
