Description
S p 1956 E. wEcKEssER CONTINUOUS ROTARY NOTE PADS Filed June 7, 1954 /6 INVENTOR.
2% ifioieaaer 2,761,700 CONTINUOUS ROTARY NOTE rAnsv q Ethan Weckesser, Chicago, Ill Application June 7, v1954, Serial No. 434,889 1 1 Claim. c1. 281-8) This invention relates to note pads and more particularly to continuous rotary note pads. One object is to provide a rotary note padincluding a base portion horizontally disposed at the lowest point of the pad, the base adapted to rest directly upon a support and directly Patented Sept. 4, 1956 the shaft end contiguous to said perforation 5, however,
being formed contracted and with a perforation 6 through which a crimp 7 in one side of the U-shaped spring 8 yieldingly extends and contacts a bearing 3a, said' spring disposed within shaft 4 and its closed end remote from theadjacent shaft end, the opposite end of said-shaft extending through and beyond an ear 2 and having fast receiving and supporting the writing paper at the point of writing thus providing that stability required for the writing operation.
A further object is to provide a rotary note pad having guide means for keeping the writing paper perfectlystraight in its movement along the base, means being provided also for paper movement back and forth, as desired, to permit inspection of anything previously written.
A further object is to provide improved means for so mounting the. rollers that they are easily movable, the rollers or shafts associated with sleeves constantly under tension thus preventing slack in the paper at all times.
Other and further objects of the invention will be obvious from the following description and claims and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing which, by way of illustration, show aqpreferred embodiment of what I at present consider to be the best mode contemplated for applying these principles. Other embodiments of the invention involving the same or equivalent principles may be used and structural changes made as desired by those skilled in the art without departing from the present invention and the purview of the appended claim.
In the drawing: 1
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a continuous rotary note pad embodying the instant invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the pad, partly in section, showing an end shaft, sleeve and associated features. 1
Fig. 4 is an end view, also partly in section, showing an end bearing and associated features, and,
" upon its outer endthe knob or handle 9.
Encompassing said shaft 4 but spaced slightly there from is the split or slit sleeve 10 extending from bearing to bearing, square in cross section, and formed with a longitudinal lip 11, Fig. 3, disposed in the slit in said shaft 4, said lip 11 permitting only a slightly relative rotary movement of shaft 4 and sleeve 10. The purpose of the spring 8 is to yieldingly permit withdrawal of the" shaft from the sleeve when desired and to facilitate assembly of the device. 1
Rising from the base 1 between the ears at each end thereof are spaced lugs 13 that carry a guide roller 14 having a shaft 15 upon which are pivotally mounted the .extensions 16 of a friction plate 17 engaged by a spring 18 one end of which is secured to said extension 16 and the opposite end to a bearing 3a to yieldingly retain said friction plate in engagement with a roll of paper 19 secured at its ends to or between the shaft 4 and sleeve 10, the paper from said rollpassing beneath a guide roller 14 lengthwise of said base and beneath the opposite guide roller and in like manner secured to the shaft Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view showing one of the 4 and sleeve 10 at the opposite end of the device, the paper thus moving longitudinally of the base in contiguity therewith to provide a firm writing surface.
.In operation one roll of paper may be wound about a sleeve 10 by rotation of one knob 9 and unwound from the Opposite sleeve, the pressure of the plates 17 keeping the paper taut and straight in its movements over the base. When one knob 9 is rotated the round shaft 4 engages the lip 11 of a sleeve 10 and rotates same to wind the paper thereupon from one end of the device to the other, and winding the paper in the opposite direction by the other knob 9 will expose and bring to view matter already written but obscured by the forward movement of the paper.
What is claimed'is:
In a continuous rotary note pad, a base, rotary manually actuated drive shafts operatively arranged upon opposite ends of said base, sleeves encompassing said.
sleeve and wound upon the other sleeve as said shafts are selectively rotated, lugs at the ends of said base, guide rollers for the paper carried by said lugs adjacent said sleeves, friction platespivotally carried by said base engaging the paper roll, said, friction plates having extensions, and spring-pressure means carried by said friction plate extensions exerting pressure upon the paper roll.
