United States Patent TOY HORSE Leo A. Heintzelman, Grand Rapids, Mich.
Application December 7, 1953, Serial No. 396,510
'1 Claim. (Cl. 272-4.)
This invention relates to a hollow animal head toy.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a hollow animal head toy adapted to be supported over the shoulders of a child and in front of the body and which projects outwardlytherefrom for the child to carry and which has reins to be grasped by the child to give the child the feeling of driving a horse.
It is another object of the invention to provide a hollow animal head which can be formed of sheet material such as paper or cardboard and thereafter bent and brought into shape when displayed and used, but adapted to be in a flat condition at times when it is to be shipped to thereby consume little space.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a hollow animal head toy which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, has a minimum number of parts, durable, light in weight, of pleasing appearance and convenient and effective in use.
For a better understanding of the invention reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the hollow animal head embodying the features of the present invention, the same being pictured as extending over the head of a child and supported on the front of his body;
Fig. 2 is a rear elevational view of the toy in its folded condition;
Fig. 3 is a plan view with the parts separated from one another and bearing the outline with which the same is made from sheet material.
Referring now to the figures, represents a toy in its folded state. This toy is formed by stamping with a die sheet paper or cardboard material. It is arranged to provide two halves 11 and 12, as shown in Fig. 3, which are joined over the front of the head portions 13 and 14 respectively and along dotted line 15 which serves as the fold line when the parts 11 and 12 are folded to assume the shape shown in Figs. 1 and 27 These head portions 13 and 14 have respectively nose ends 16 and 17 that Will be aligned to form the nose of the head. Ear portions 18 and 19 respectively extend upwardly from the head portions 13 and 14.
Painted on the head portions, as illustrated, are bridle straps indicated respectively at 20 and 21.
Patented July 31, 1956 To each head portion there is connected an end of a ribbon 22 as indicated at 23. This ribbon or strap 22 serves as a driving rein which is held in the childs hand, either above or below the toy.
The ends of the portions 11 and 12 respectively have foldable portions 24 and 25. The portion 24 is foldable along the dotted line 26 and is cut as indicated at 27 to engage with cut slots 28 in the portion 25, in the manner as shown in Fig. 2. The portion 25 is foldable along dotted line 29.
In order to support the toy on the neck of the child a strap 32 is connected respectively to the opposite portions 11 and 12 at 33 and 34 respectively. The strap is placed about the neck of the child and in this manner the toy is supported therefrom. The folded portions 24 and 25 will lie on the front of the child at a waist high location. The portions 24 and 25 provide sufiicient area to give adequate support to the toy and keep it in true alignment forwardly of the child. The child can pull on the reins 22 and easily keep the toy steadied upon him.
It will now be apparent that these toys can be easily folded at times when shipment is to be made so that they will take up little space. They may be assembled by the purchaser in an easy manner by simply interlocking the portions 24 and 25 to provide the area on the back of the toy.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A hollow animal head toy comprising a unitary blank having side members conforming in shape and appearance to a horses neck with depending head portions, said members being connected together along the forward edges of the head portions so as to be folded, foldable portions on the rear ends of each side member, driving means comprising reins connected respectively by their ends to the respective head portions, a strap connected to the upper edge of the respective members by the ends thereof and adapted to extend about the neck of the wearer, saddle representations provided on the respective side members adjacent to the respective fold lines of the foldable connecting portions and bridle representations respectively disposed on the head portions and leading from the ends of the driving reins at their points of connection with the head portions, each of said foldable portions having stamped therein complementary, interlocking tongue portions.
