Definitions
- This invention relates to new and useful improvements and structural refinements in brassieres, and the principal object of the invention is to provide substantial uplift, a sure comfort in pose and breathing and properly support and mold the breasts of the'wearer.
- the invention concerns itself with a brassiere having breast cups provided with tapered, substantially triangular inside corner portions disposed in a mutually crossed or overlapped relation, whereby a delinite amount of flexibility or independence of support of the respective breasts is achieved and comfort in pose and breathing is attained.
- the invention contemplates the provision of elastic bands which are secured to the lower edges of the respective breast cups to afford a substantial amount of uplift to the breasts, such bands having mutually overlapped or crossed inner end portions coacting with the overlapped inside corner portions of the breast cups in attaining the flexibility, independence of support and comfort as above outlined.
- Some of the advantages of the invention reside in its simplicity of construction, in its eflicient functional performance and in its adaptability for embodiment in conventional narrow brassieres as well as those of the socalled long-line type intended to mold the breasts and the portion of the abdomen between the breasts and the waist.
- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention in use
- Figure 2 is a fragmentary front elevational View thereof
- Figure 3 is an inside elevational View of the subject shown in Figure 2;
- Figure 4 is a sectional detail, taken substantially in the plane of the line 4 4 in Figure 2;
- Figure 5 is a fragmentary front elevational View of the invention embodied in a long line brassiere
- Figure 6 is an inside elevational view of the subject shown in Figure 5;
- FIG. 7 is a sectional detail, taken substantially in the plane of the line 7 7 in Figure 5
- a brassiere constructed in accordance with this invention is designated generally by the numeral 10 and includes a front section 11 and a pair of side sections 12 which are separably connected together at the back of the brassiere in any conventional manner.
- the brassiere may be provided with the usual shoulder straps 13, if so desired.
- the essence of novelty of the invention resides in the construction of the front section 11, the same compris- States Patent ing a pair of breast cups 14 provided with tapered, substantially triangular inside corner portions 14a'which are disposed in a mutually overlapped or crossed relation, the inner edge of the overlapped inside corner portion of one breast cup being secured to the other breast cup by a line of stitching, as exemplified at 15.
- the inner edge of the overlapped inside corner portion of the second breast cup is preferably left free, so as to attain a certain amount of flexibility and independent support of breasts in the two cups.
- strips of lace or netted material 16 may be provided at the top, inside and outside edges of the breast cups, as shown.
- a pair of elastic bands 17 underlie the respective breast cups 14, the upper edge of each band being secured to the lower edge of the associated cup by a line of stitching it.
- the bands 17 have inner end portions 17a coextensive with the inside corner portions 14a of the cups, which portions 17a are disposed in a crossing relation to coact with the cup portions'lia in attaining the exibility and independence 'of support above mentioned.
- the bands 17, yieldable in'directions substantially parallel to the lower edges of the breast cups, extend at an obtuse angle to each other and the inner end edge 17!) of the band of each cup is secured by the stitching 1E to the upper edge of the band of the other cup, while the lower edges of the two bands are free of each other.
- the elastic bands 17, underlying the cups 14, provide an effective uplift for the breasts and their crossing inner end portions coact with the overlapped inside corner portions of the breast cups in lending flexibility and articulation to t'ne opposite sides of the front section of the garment.
- FIG. 5-7 show the invention embodied in a long line type of a brassiere designated generally by the numeral 20, the front section is shown at 21 while the side sections are illustrated at 22.
- the structure of the upper region of the front section 21 is substantially the same as already described and corresponding reference numerals are used to designate the parts thereof.
- the front section Z1 also includes a frontal panel 23 which extends downwardly frorn the lower edges of the breast cups 14 so as to mold the region of the abdomen between the breasts and the waist.
- rlhe side sections 22 are increased in width to accommodate the additional width of the garment involved by the presence of the panel 23, the latter being secured to the breast cups by the lines ot' stitching 1S while the upper edge portion of the panel is overlapped by the bands 17. It is preferred that at the lines of connection of the panel 23 to the breast cups the material be shirred as indicated at Z4, so that the panel may properly coact with the breast cups in assuring effrcient uplift, comfort and ease of breathing, and facilitating stretching of the elastic bands 17.
- the frontal panel 23 is preferably composed of a central portion 23a of non-elastic material and a pair of lateral portions 2311 of elastic material, the latter being yieldaole circumferentially of Athe garment.
- a front section comprising a pair of breast cups provided with upwardly convergent lower edges and having mutually overlapped inside corner portions secured together, and a pair of upwardly convergent elastic bands secured to the lower edges of the respective breast cups, inner end portions of said bands coextensive with the overlapped inside corner portions of the breast cups being disposed in a crossing relation but free of each other at least at the lower edges thereof.
- a front section comprising a pair of breast cups provided with upwardly convergent lower edges and having substantially triangular inside corner portions disposed in a mutually overlapped relation, a line of stitching securing the inside edge of the overlapped inside corner portion of at least one of said breast cups to the other cup, a pair of upwardly convergent elastic bands underlying the respective breast cups, upper edges of said bands being coextensive with the lower edges of the cups, inner end portions of said bands co extensive with the overlapped inside corner portions of the breast cups being disposed in a crossing relation, and lines of stitching securing the upper edges of said bands to the lower edges of the respective breast cups, said last mentioned lines of stitching securing the inner end edge of the band of each cup to the upper edge of the band of the other cup, the lower edges of said bands being free of each other.
- a front section comprising a pair of breast cups provided with upwardly convergent lower edges and having substantially triangular inside corner portions disposed in a mutually overlapped relation, the overlapped inside corner portions of said cups having inverted V-shaped lower edges, and a pair of upwardly convergent elastic bands co-extensive with'the lower edges of the respective cups, inner end portions of said bands being contiguous with and secured at their upper and end edges to the inverted V-shaped lower edge portions of the respective cups, said inner end portions of the bands being disposed in a crossing relation and the lower edges thereof being free of each other.
