SASH-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 275,456, dated April 10, 1883.

Be it known that I, JOHN M. BALDWIN, a citizen of the United States,residingat Sidney, in the county of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Sash- JHolder, of which the following is a specifica- In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective' view of a window frame and sash having my improvements. Referring to the drawings, A designates the window-frame, which may be ot' any ordinary construction; and B is the sash. The latter is adapted to slide in the former in the usual manner, and is provided in one of its edges with recessesG, as shown. In these recessesC are fitted casings D. The casin gs D comprise a plate, E, having an about centrally and longitudinally disposed slot or opening, F, and wings or extensions G G, projecting from the side edges Vof the plate opposite the slot therein. vEach of these wings is bent under andagainst the plate E, as shown at H, as far asthe side edge of the slot F, and from thence it extendsstraight from the main plate, as at I. These parallel straight portions I I are each provided with a perforation, J, through which a plain pin, K,is passed. On this cross-pin is tween the parallel portions I I and projects slightly from the surface of the plate E through the slot F therein. These casings D are placed in the recesses C in the edge of the sash, their straight portions I being received into the recess, while the main plate rests iiush with the edge of the sash, with its double portion at H projecting against the edge of the sash at the sides of the recess. The portion of the casing D carrying the roller tits neatly in the recess in the sash, so that the bearing-pin of the roller is retained in place by the sides of the said recess.l The casings are secured in position by means of tacks or screws M, that are received into notches N in the end of the casings and enter the sash. These notches obviate lateral displacement of the casin gs. Under some circumstances the casin gs and rollers can be arranged on the frame instead of on the sash.
This form of casing, Src., is very strong and durable, and can be readily removed from the sash when the latter is withdrawn from the windowframe, for the substitution of new rollers, or for any other purpose. W hen the sash is in position the rollers bear against the window-frame and retain the sash in any position to which it may have been adjusted.
lI am aware that sash-holders have been heretofore formed by an elastic roller journaled between the wings or anges of a casing that is set in recesses in the edge of the sash, this construction being shown in numerous patents.
I am also aware that it is old to make the bearings and casings above specified of a single piece of sheet-metal, and this I do not claim, my invention being limited specifically to my own novel'construction, as set forth in the following claim.
I claim as my invention- As an improved article of manufacture, the herein-described sash-holder, consisting of a casing struck up from a single plate and comprising a main securing-plate, E, having a slot or ripening, F, and the wings or extensions' Gr G, projecting from the side edges of the plate opposite the slot and bent under against the plate as far as the edges of the slot F, and from thence extending straight from the main plate F, and a removable elastic roller journaled between the straight portion of the said wings, as set forth.
