Be it known that I, DANIEL DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elmira, in the county of Chemung and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Curtain-Hangers and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed 1o drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in adjustable curtainhangers; and it has for its object to provide a I 5 construction whereby the common springroller curtain maybe so hung as to lower from the top as well as to be raised from the bottom.

It also has for its object other improvements in the details of construction, which will be 2o made apparent from the following description and claims.

The invention consists in the peculiar combinations and the construction,arrangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the drawings,

and then-particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, forni a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a window provided with my improvements. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the parts shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the parts embodying my invention shown detached, but in their relative positions. Fig. et is a perspective detail showing the attachment of one of the roller-supports.

Referring now to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the top sash-bar of a window, to the front face of which is attached in any suitable 1nanner--as, for instance, screws, as shown in Fig. 2--a bracket a, the outer end of the horizontal portion of which is formed with a slot a.

B is a plate formed with a hole b, through 5o which passes a bolt 01 screw b', which also passes through the slot in the lateral portion of the bracket, the parts thus being adjustably secured together, the loosening of the screw or bolt allowing the parts to be adj usted one on the other, the tightening of the screw or bolt holding them in their adjusted position. The outer end of the plate B is formed with a circular hole b2, through which passes the vertical rod C, the end of which is secured to said plate, as shown in Fig. 2.. The v6o other end of this rod passes through an opening in the plate D, attached to the top bar of the lower sash, as shown, the rod being held therein by means of a set-screw c, the object yof which is to bind the rod C, and thus lock the window-sashes in any predetermined relative position.

Extending crosswise of the window-fra me is as lat or bar E, to which the roller-brackets F are secured, as shown in Fig. 4, the brackets 7o bein g formed with a slotted portion f, through which passes the screw f', the head of which bears on the metal upon cach side of the slot, and thus holds it in place, allowing of adjustment to accommodate different widths of windows. Journaledin these brackets is a curtain-roller G, which may be of any approved form, and carrying the curtain G, as shown.

Attached to the rear of the slat or bar E,

near its center, opposite the rod C, is a bracket 8o H, having a horizontal slot-ted portion 7L, to which is adj ustably secured by means of the screw or bolt 7L the bracket I, formed with the two bearings z' and j in the same vertical plane, and which are designed to loosely receive the vertical rod C, as shown in Fig. 2.

A web k serves to strengthen the bracket, which at its lower end is formed with the ears l, between which is pivoted the cam-latch K, by means of a transverse pin or pivot m, as 9o shown. The cam-latch has a tail n, to which may be attached a cord or a rod, as shown at M, by which it may be operated, as will be hereinafter described.

' The operation is simple and apparent. 95 lVith the parts in the position in which they are shown in Fig. 2 the curtain will act in the usual way; but when the upper sash is lowered the curtain-roller will be lowered therewith, as indicated in Fig. 1, in which the up- Ioo per sash is shown as lowered a little and the curtain lowered correspondingly. The rod C serves as a Very convenient means of raising and lowering` the sash. When it is desired to raise or lower the curtain and its fixtures independently of the upper sash, it is only necessary to push upward on the rod M, which Will release the grip formed by the cam-latch, when the curtain-roller may be readily raised or lowered, and when it has reached the desired posit-ion the rod M is let go of, and the latch grips the rod and holds the parts in their adjusted position.

The construction above described is what I at present consider the preferable way of carrying out my invention, but I do not intend to restrict myself to the details of construction or arrangement of parts, as it is evident that the same may be Varied within certain limits without departingfrom the spirit of my invention.

IVhat I claim as new isl. The combination,with the sash, the roller, and its slat, of the centrally-arran ged vertical rod attached to the sash, and a bracket carrying the roller and slat and adjustable on said rod, substantially as described.

2. The combination,with the sash, the roller, curtain, and slat, of the centrally-arranged Vertical rod attached to the sash,the bracket sliding on the rod and attached to the slat, and a lock acting on the rod to hold the bracket in its adjusted position on the rod, substantially as described.

3. The combination,with the sash, the roller, and its slat, of the centrally-arranged vertical rod attached to the sash, the bracket adjustable on said rod and attached to the slat, and a lock on the bracket acting against the rod to hold the bracket in its adjusted position on the rod, substantially as described.

4. The combination, with the roller and its slat, of the centrally-arranged vertical rod attached to the sash, the bracket attached to the slat and adjustable on the rod, and a canilatch on. the bracket to engage the rod to hold the bracket in its adjusted position, substantially as described. j 5. The combination, with the roller and its slat, of the centrally-arranged Vertical rod, the bracket attached to the slat and adjustable on the rod, the cam-latch fulcrumed on the bracket acting on the rod, and a rod attached to the latch, substantially as shown and described.

6. The combination, with the roller and its I slat, of the' upper sash, the lower sash, the vertical rod attached at its upper end to the upper sash and its lower end adjustably connected with the lower sash, and the bracket attached to the slat and adjustable on the rod, substantially as described.

7. The combination, with the upper sash, the Vertical Lrod attached at its upper end to the said sash and its lower end adjustably connected with the lower sash, and the roller and its slat, of the bracket attached to the slat and adjustable on the rod, and a camlatch on the 'bracket to engage the rod, substantially as described.
