1 Claim. (Cl. 306-33) This invention relates to improvements in tool handle wedges and more particularly to a novel tool handle wedge having means for introducing a moistening agent.

An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type so constructed that it will retain an amount of liquid for the purpose of swelling wood in which it had been set, and of a structure designed to prevent accidental outward movement of said wedge.

Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 is a side view in elevation partially broken away of an axe head and handle secured by a wedge embodying the invention.

Fig. 2 is a perspective view from above of said wedge.

Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the same.

Fig. 4 is a vertical edge view in elevation.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, in Fig. 1, an axe head is held on the handle member 11 by means of a tight frictional fit and the wedge 12, driven into the end 13 of handle member 11 after the axe head 10 is in place.

The wedge 12 includes a tubular central portion 14,

having the staggered apertures as at 15 and internal threading within the top end at 16 to receive the screw cap 17.

18 and 19 are also provided with transverse, vertically spaced step formations as at 22 to prevent the wedge 12 from working out after it has been properly set. The lower end of the tubular central portion 14 has an exterior bevel at 23 to facilitate entry of the wedge 12 as it is being driven into the handle 11.

The front face 24 and backv face 25 of the wedge 12 in the segmental portions thereof are generally parallel and plane surfaces.

It will be understood that the device is capable of many modifications in structure and design, without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States, is:

A wedge for tool handles including a central elongated tubular portion open at the bottom, a bevelled edge on the lower end of said tubular portion, said tubular portion having staggered spaced apertures therein, integral opposed tapered downwardly reduced solid segments on said tubular portion, transverse step formations obliquely disposed and vertically spaced in said segments, and bevelled sharp edges on the exterior margins of said tapered segments reduced downwardly to merge in the bevelled lower edge of said tubular portion.
