Description

Nov. 26, 1935. M. PORCO y 2,022,638
RAZOR Filed May 22, 1954 1. 2 Qa 4 IH W g Invenlor Ma 775 0 Dardo Bywwawu I Patented Nov. 26, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
rlhis invention relates to a razor, the general object of the invention being to provide a razor made somewhat in the manner of a straight oldfashioned razor, but with a removable blade, so that a number of blades can be kept on hand and the blades placed in the head of the razor as desired.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:-
Figure 1 is an elevation, with parts in section,
of the invention.
Figure 2 is a view looking toward the beveled edge 01"' the blade.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the blade.
In this drawing, the numeral I indicates the head of the razor and the handle is shown at 2, and while the drawing shows the handle as formed with the head, it is to be understood that the handle can be pivotally connected to the head, as in the old-fashioned razors now in use. The head is formed with a longitudinally extending slot 3 therein which opens out through one edge of the head. The head I is formed with a deending lip I2 provided with a slot I3 registering with longitudinal slot 3. Slot I3 has a sloping inner wall 4 and the lip embraces substantially the upper half of the blade 8 at the outer corner thereof. The inner end of the head is formed with a slot I4 registering with slot 3 that has a sloping wall 5 terminating in a. pocket 6 at a point where the wall 5 joins the inner wall of slot 3. Slots I3 and I4 extend at an angle to the longitudinal slot 3 to seat the blade 8 at each end and furnish additional support. Slot I4 embraces the major portion of the width of the blade.
` A threaded hole is formed in the lip I2 of the head for receiving a set screw l. The blade 8 is formed with a rear part to fit in the slot, with the ends of the blade sloping to conform to the sloping walls 4 and 5, with the inner end of the blade adjacent its rear edge formed with a projection 9 for tting in the rearwardly extending pocket 6 and the other end of the blade having a forwardly directed three-sided notch I therein having parallel horizontal side walls and a vertical inner end wall perpendicular to the side walls, which notch for receiving the set screw, so that when this set screw is screwed inwardly to have its inner end engage the notch, the blade is locke-d in the slot of the head, as shown in Figure l. By partly removing the set screw, the blade can be removed and another blade substituted therefor. In applying the blade it is inserted in slot 3 in a diagonal direction until projec- 10 tion 9 is in substantial registry with pocket after which the blade is swung into position on the lower edge of slot I4 as a fulcrum, the walls 4 and 5 being provided with suihcient clearance with respect to the end edges of the blade to accommodate this movement.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
In a razor including a head and a handle, said head formed in one piece and with an intermediate longitudinal slot, a depending lip on the free end of the head formed with an upright slot registering with the outer end of the longitudinal slot, `said head further formed with an upright slot registering with the inner end of the longitudinal slot, said last mentioned slot formed with a rearwardly extending pocket adjoining the end of the longitudinal slot, a set screw carried by the lip of the head having one end movable into and out of the longitudinal slot at the juncture with the outer upright slot, a single edge oblong razor blade formed with a, forwardly directed three-sided notch on the outer edge having par- 0 allel horizontal side walls and a vertical inner end wall perpendicular to the side walls to receive the end of the set screw, said notch located between the top and cutting edge of the blade, said blade having portions thereof removably seated in the longitudinal and upright slots, and the outer upright slot substantially embracing one half of the Width oi the blade with the inner upright slot embracing the major portion of the width of the blade whereby additional support is provided at the ends of the blade.
