SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Iatent No. 274,268, dated March 20, 188 3.
7 Application .filed August 28, 1882. (No model.)
T all whom it may concern:
Be it kuownthat I, REBECOA A. CAMPBELL, ofQuincy, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Milk-Pails, of which the following is a specification I Thisinvention relates to that class of milkpails which are provided with a tubular spout having a removable strainer.
The invention has for its object to provide certain improvements in the form of the pail,
whereby it is enabled to be easily cleaned, and is adapted for use either as a pail, strainer, or
funnel, and alsoto provide improved means samepartsin all the figures.
In the drawings, (t represents my improved pail, which is provided with a breast or conical front, a, terminating in a short tubular spout, b. The upper portion of the conical front projects considerably above the rear upperedgeof the pail, and is inclined downwardly from its upper portionto the spout, the lower side of which is also above the rear upper edge of the pail. The conical frontand its spout virtually constitute a funnel, which is adapted to be used either with or without the strainer hereinafter described, the upward projection of the topof the conical front enabling articles to be poured into it conveniently when the pail is held in the position shown in Fig. 2. The spout b is provided with a threaded portion, 0, and with asomewhat contracted smooth portion, d, projecting beyond the threaded porion.
9 represents a wire-gauze or perforated metal strainer, having a flange, 9, adapted to fit upon the smooth portion d of the spout and bear against the shoulder at the end of the threaded portion. I
as to screw upon the threaded portion of the spout, and provided with an inwardly-projecting flange, f, adapted to bear against the strainer g and hold the same in place when the tube is screwed onto the spout, the tube projecting considerably outside of the strainer, and preventing dirt from falling on it, as well as protecting it from injury. The flange gon the strainer enables the latter to be placed on the spout before I the tube e is applied, the flange holding the strainer in position while the tube is being screwed to place.
It Will be observed that the conical breast or funnel a joins the body of the pail ata very obtuse angle, so that there are no corners or re-entrant angles on the interior surface of the pail, and the latter is therefore as easily cleaned as an ordinary pail having no spout. When the pail is in its ordinary use, the lower portion of the breast a constitutes a part of the pail and considerably increases its holding capacity.
I am aware that a pail has been provided with a hood partially covering its top, and having a projecting spout with a removable strainer; but 1 am not aware that a pail has been provided with a conical front forming a part of the body of the pail.
I claim- The improved pail having the conical front or breast a, placed transversely, or nearly so,
to the vertical center of the pail, and project- I ing partly below the plane of the upper edge of the pail, whereby the holding capacity of the pail is increased, and partly above said plane, whereby the conical breast is adapted to serve as a tunnel independently of the pail, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specificatiomiu the presenceof two subscribing witnesses, this 25th day of August,
' REBEGGA A. CAMPBELL.
