1 Claim. (Cl. 215-42) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in covers for bottles to hide the soiled labels or stains on the outer surface of catsup or other bottles used in restaurants or other public places.

An important object of the invention is to provide a bottle cover forming a protective shell tightly fitting over the bottle and having resilient means clamping the cover to the neck of the bottle.

Another object is to provide a protective cover for bottles which reduces danger of breakage.

A further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is easy to install, inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purpose for which the same is intended.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevational view;

Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view;

Figures 3 and 4 are transverse sectional views taken respectively on the lines 3-3 and 44 of Figure 2; and

Figure 5 is a side elevational view of a modified construction.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a hollow-body which may be made of a commercially well known plastic, light weight metal, or other suitable substantially rigid material and open at each end for sleeving over a bottle 6 in close fitting engagement therewith to provide a cover for the bottle.

In the form of the invention illustrated in Figures 1 to 4 inclusive, the lower portion of the body is fiuted as shown at 7 to conform with the complementary shaped sides of the bottle. The upper or neck portion 8 of the body is tapered and formed with vertical slots 9 to provide a plurality of resilient fingers 10 for expansion and contraction of the neck to permit passage of the neck of the cover downwardly over the heading 11 of the bottle as the cover is forced downwardly over the bottle.

2,741,386 Patented Apr. 10, 1956 The tips 12 of the fingers 10 are inclined outwardly under the beading 11 and under which is placed an endless coil spring 13 or other suitable elastic band to hold the neck of the cover in a contracted position on the neck of the bottle.

16 and 17 to expose the label (not shown) on the bottle as well as to permit inspection of the level of liquid in the bottle.

Figure 5 illustrates a cover 18 having smooth walls and without the window openings.

The cover or body 5 is slipped downwardly over the bottle until the resilient fingers 10 snap beiow the bead ing 11 of the bottle to thus grip and hold the cover attached thereto. The cover thus conceals any stains or other unsightly condition on the bottle and also protects the bottle and reduces danger of breakage while handling.

From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claim.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

In combination, a bottle having a beading on a tapered neck portion, and a cover for the bottle comprising a hollow body open at each end and adapted to sleeve over the bottle, said body being constructed of substantially rigid, self-supporting material and having its lower end positioned coplanar with the bottom of the bottle, said body including a tapered neck at its upper portion and conforming to the neck of the bottle to limit upward movement of the bottle in the cover, a plurality of vertical resilient fingers at the upper portion of the neck, flared outwardly in the plane of the heading of the bottle and an expansible and contractible band surrounding the fingers to contract the latter about the neck of the bottle under the beading to oppose upward sliding movement of the cover relative to the bottle.
