0. HELLER.
PRINTERS INK GAS-E.
Patented Mar. 13,1883.
J11 mi (61.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CYRUS HELLER, OF WILLIAMSPORT, PENNSYLVANIA.
PRINT'ERS-INK CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 273,989, dated March 13, 1883.
Application filed September25,1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CYRUS HELLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Williamsport, in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Printers-Ink Gases;
' and I do hereby declare that the following is a clear and exact description of the same, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- 7 i. Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved case for printers ink open. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same closed, and Fig. 3 is longitudinal vertical section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures. 1 My invention has relation to printers-ink cases; and itconsists in the improved construction and combination of parts of the same, as
hereinafter more fully described and claimed. In the accompanying drawings, the letterA indicates a box or case provided with a hinged lid, G. The upper edge of the box is provided with a packing, a, of rubber or other suitable material, by which the lid may be closed airtight upon the box, while the lid is held closed by a snap, F, engaging a pin or stud, 9, upon the front side of the box. When the lid is opened it is held back resting uponv a projection, h, fastened upon the side of the box by a spiral spring, l1, fastened at one end to the lower edge of the box and at the other end to the upper edge of the lid. p 1
Inside the-case are placed the inkcan G and ajar, D, containing water. The ink-can is of the shape as usually sold, and is simply opened and placed inside the case, a spring, 01, fastened to the inside of ,the case and bearing against the can with its free end, serving to hold the can inplace. The jar D contains water, and is held in place by a strip,f, fastened to the side of the case, the water contained in it serving by evaporation to keep the surface of the ink exposed in the can from drying and forming a crust.
E is an L-shaped piece of wire, hinged to the side of the case at e, and passing up to the edge of the case, where it is bent, resting in a notch, e, and passing over the edge of the ink-can to the other side of the case, where it is inserted in a hole,e This wire serves to hold the can in place, while it may be removed for the purpose of removing the can, while it at the same time afl'ords support for the inkspatula B, which rests in a notch, c, in the casing, and affords a scraper for scraping off the superfluous ink from the spatula.
It will be seen that this case will preserve the ink from dust and keep it from drying upon the surface, and that a can may be taken out when empty and a new one put in its place by simply removing the L-shaped wire it and replacing it when the new can has been placed in the case, the spring and the wire holding it in place, while at the same time the wire will afford a scraper and supportfor the spatula.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. The combination of the can 0, held fast in the casing A by means of spring at, with the L-shaped wire E, hinged upon caseA, and resting in notch e and hole 6 in the casing, substantially as and for the purpose shown and set forth. p
2. The herein-described case for printers ink, consisting of the case A, having lug g, projection h, notches c and e, and hole e and packing a, hinged lid G, having snap F, and spring I), ink-can (J, held fast by spring 01, water-receptacle D, and-L-shaped wire E, hinged at e, and forming a support for the spatula B, all constructed and combined substantially as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
' CYRUS HELLER.
