Description

March 20, 1956 H. PERL BREAST COVER Filed Aug. 27, 1954 N INVENTOR W /99/6/2 Pei-Z.
ATTORNEY United States Patent BREAST COVER Helen Perl, New York, N. Y.
Application August 27, 1954, Serial No. 452,566
1 Claim. (Cl. 2-42) This invention relates to a breast cover.
The invention is concerned with an artificial breast which closely simulates a real breast in appearance, feel and action and which is adapted for removable positioning within the breast pocket of a standard form of brassiere, and more particularly pertains to a removable cover for such artificial breast.
A primary object of the invention is to provide a cover for a hollow pneumatic breast form together wherein the cover member is provided with a marginal pocket for removably receiving the breast form and the combined form and cover are adapted to be removably secured within the breast pocket of a usual form of brassiere.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent in the course of the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein- Fig. l is a fragmental inside plan view of a brassiere showing an artificial breast in accordance with the present invention, removably secured in one of the pockets thereof with the cover disposed over the breast form.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the cover, member as observed from the pocket side thereof.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view of the cover as observed in the plane of line 3-3 of Figure 2; and
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view substantially in the plane of line 4-4 on Fig. 1 and wherein the brassiere and cover member are shown of one thickness for greater clarity in illustration.
Referring now in detail to the drawing, B designates a brassiere of usual form and which comprises a pair of breast pockets P.
The artificial breast involved in the present invention is designated at 10 in Fig. 4 and wherein it will be seen a that same is a seamless hollow body having relatively thin walls 11 and 12 which are normally maintained in yieldable spaced relation as indicated in Fig. 4 by air above atmosphere pressure therein.
The improved cover member 13 comprises three pieces of material which include a major cover piece 14 and a pair of pocket forming pieces 15.
The cover is preferably constructed from crepe de Chine nylon which is non-shrinkable and the piece 14 is cut on the bias as indicated in Fig. 2 while the pocket forming pieces 15 are cut on the straight.
As indicated in Figs. 2 and 3, the margin of the cover piece 14 is folded inwardly as at 16 and the pocket forming pieces 15 have their opposite edge portions formed inwardly as at 17. A pair of spaced lines of stitches 18 extend through the marginal portion of the cover piece 14, the pieces 15 and the inwardly folded portion 16 of the cover piece and the adjacent inwardly folded portions of the pocket forming pieces 15. A second pair of spaced lines of stitching 19 inwardly of the first pair extend through the pieces 15 and their inwardly folded portions 17 which are free of the cover piece 14 thereby providing a marginal pocket 20 for receiving substantial marginal portions of the breast 10 as indicated in Fig. 4.
2,738,510 Patented Mar. 20, 1956 The pocket forming pieces 15 have their adjacent ends in the major axis of the cover as indicated at 21 in Fig. 2.
The bottom of the pocket 20 is substantially defined by the innermost line of stitches 18 as is obvious from Fig. 3 and the artificial breast 10 has a plan form such that its perimeter substantially engages the bottom of the pocket 20. In other words, the innermost line of stitches 18 as seen in Fig. 2 substantially designates the margin of the breast form.
The cover outwardly of the innermost line of stitching 18 provides a free marginal portion by which the cover 13 together with the breast 10 may be removably secured to the brassiere B within a pocket P thereof as by means of tacking 22 as shown in Fig. 1 or by any other suitable means, including pins, snap fasteners, and the like.
The cover 13 is capable of being quickly and easily applied to and removed from the artificial breast 10 in the well known manner of applying an ear mulf.
The breast 10 is positioned in contact with the brassiere material in a pocket P and the cover piece 14 is inwardly disposed for contact with the wearer.
The improved artificial breast as disclosed breathes naturally with the body, in motion, or in a reclining position.
Furthermore, the breast looks real, feels real, acts real, curves over an incision area, is cool to wear and is odorless in use.
The cover member 13 being of crepe de Chine nylon is non-shrinkable and same may be washed with soap and water at any temperature without in any way shrinking or damaging same.
The artificial breast as disclosed maintains its proper form substantially under all conditions of use but in the event that same becomes dented, its structure is such that it will be restored to its original shape upon dropping same into boiling water for one minute.
While I have disclosed my invention in accordance with a single specific structural embodiment thereof, such is to be considered as illustrative only and not restrictive, the scope of the invention being defined in the sub-joined claim.
What I claim and desire to secure by U. S. Letters Patent is:
A removable cover for an inflated seamless artificial breast having inner and outer outwardly convex walls; comprising a fabric cover piece engageable with said inner wall and extending beyond the edge thereof throughout its marginal extent, at least one fabric piece engageable with the outer wall adjacent to and coextensive with the margin thereof, said last fabric piece extending outwardly to the extent of said first piece and being connected thereto, outer marginal portions of said first and second fabric pieces being turned inwardly into overlying relation, said connection between said fabric pieces comprising two spaced lines of stitching extending through said outer marginal portions and said inwardly turned portions, said fabric pieces inwardly of the innermost of said lines of stitching providing a continuous pocket for receiving the marginal portion of said breast and the cover outwardly of the said innermost line of stitching providing a free marginal portion by which the cover together with the artificial breast may be removably secured to an undergarment.
