Description

M. G. UARLETONI BOUQUET BADGE.
Patented Mar.6,1883.
UNITED STATES I ATENT FF'ICE.
MONROE G. OARLETON, OF JACKSON, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO GEORGE W. AUSTIN AND VERNE S. PEASE, BOTH OF SAME PLACE.
BOUQUET BADGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 273,666, dated March 6, 1883. Application filed August 1, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MONROE G. CABLE- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, in the county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bouquet-Badges,
of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an improvement in bouquet-badges, it having for its object more especially the application of a bouquet to a badge or shield worn by societies, civic organizations, or others; and it consists in the employment, in connection with such a badge or other means adapted to enable it to be attached to the apparel, of a receptacle fitted with an apertured elastic collar or cap, if desired, or provided with an absorbent, either of which expedients are designed to confine the water or prevent it escaping when the person may be in a recumbent position, substantially as hereinafter more fully setforth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of my improved bouquet-badge. Fig. 2 is a cross-section taken through the trunk of the bouquet, showing the mouth of the receptacle or vase and the apertured elastic collar or cap therein in plan view; and Fig. 3 is a front view of the badge.
In carrying out my invention I employ, in connection with the badge or shield A, adapted by being provided with a pin or catch for attachment to the apparel of the wearer, a
vase or receptacle, B, capable of holding fluids and made preferably of gutta-percha, vulcanized rubber, celluloid, or glass. Over the mouth of the vase or receptacle B, and designed for the retention of its liquid contents,
is adjusted an apertured elastic cap or collar, 40 0, through whose aperture the trunk of the bouquet D is inserted. This cap will also aid in the holding of the bouquet in its proper upright position in the vase and prevent it falling out under the circumstance above named. The elasticity of the cap or collar secures it in position over the aperture of the vase and the bouquet in the vase without aid of other fastenings.
I attach importance to the elastic cap which serves to retain liquid and also support the stems of the flowers Without injury thereto, and which can be readily attached and detached.
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The bouquet-badge having the vase or receptacle, an elastic apertnred cap or collar, and applied to a badge, with means for its at tachment to the apparel of the wearer, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
-In testimony whereof Iaffix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MONROE G. GARLETON.
