Description
1956 E. PIQUEREZ 2,736,165
CRYSTAL FOR A TIMEPIECE Filed March El, 1955 United States Patent CRYSTAL FBR A TIMEPIECE Ervin Piquerez, Basseconrt, Switzerland Application March 21, 1955, Serial No. 495,396 Claims priority, application Switzerland April 20, 1954. 6 Claims. (Cl. 5891) My invention has for its object a crystal for a timepiece and more particularly it has for its object a cap of unbreakable glass and a carrier extending underneath the latter and constituted by a ring matching the inner outline of the cap and by arms starting from said ring and extending towards the center of the cap so as to carry it.
I have illustrated, by way of example, in accompanying drawings a preferred embodiment of the object of my invention together with two modifications thereof; in said drawings:
Fig. 1 is a partial axial sectional view of a first embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a plan view on a smaller scale of the cap carrier.
Figs. 3 and 4 disclose each a modification.
The embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 includes a cap of unbreakable transparent material the central portion of which is designated by 1a and the peripheral depending section by 1b. Inside said cap is housed a rigid support or carrier shown separate in Fig. 2. It includes a ring 2 matching both the shape of the peripheral section 1b of the cap and that of the periphery of the central section 1a and furthermore four radial arms 2a extending towards the center of the cap where they meet and form the small disc 2b. An annulus 3 engages with a tight fit the inside of the ring 2. It acts, through the agency of the latter, on the peripheral depending section 1b of the cap so as to urge it against the rim inside which the crystal is fitted.
The modification illustrated in Fig. 3 distinguishes from the arrangement which has just been disclosed through the fact that the carrier 4 the shape of which is the same as that of the carrier shown in Figs. 1 and 2, is fitted within the thickness of the cap 5 and is flush with the inner surface of the latter. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the carrier is similar to the preceding carrier with the difference that the four arms are interconnected together underneath the central section of the cap by means of an annular member 2c replacing the disc 2b of Fig. 2.
The annulus 3 may be omitted and it is also possible to give the ring 2 a sufiicient thickness for it to play also the part of said annulus. Lastly the carrier may be provided with one or more time scales of the type usually provided on the dial of a time-piece.
What I claim is:
l. A crystal adapted to be fitted in the rim of a timepiece, comprising a cap fitted in the rim and made of unbreakable transparent material and a carrier extending underneath the said cap and including a ring matching the inner periphery of the cap and arms starting from said ring and meeting one another to form with the ring and with each other an open-work carrier structure for the cap.
2. A crystal adapted to be fitted in the rim of a timepiece, comprising a cap fitted in the rim and made of unbreakable transparent material and a carrier extending underneath the said cap and including a ring matching the inner periphery of the cap, a central member extending underneath the central section of the cap and a plurality of radial arms rigidly interconnecting said central member with the ring.
3. A crystal adapted to be fitted in the rim of a timepiece, comprising a cap fitted in the rim and made of unbreakable transparent material, a carrier extending underneath the said cap and including a ring matching the inner periphery of the cap and arms starting from said ring and meeting one another to form with the ring and with each other an open-work carrier structure for the cap, and an independent annulus fitted inside the carrier ring and urging the crystal against the rim.
4. A crystal adapted to be fitted in the rim of a timepiece, comprising a cap fitted in the rim and made of unbreakable transparent material and a carrier extending underneath the said cap and including a ring matching the inner periphery of the cap, the thickness of said ring being sufficient to urge the outer periphery of the crystal against the rim, and arms starting from said ring and meeting one another to form with the ring and with each other an open-work carrier structure for the cap.
5. A crystal adapted to be fitted in the rim of a timepiece, comprising a cap fitted in the rim and made of un breakable transparent material, said cap including a main central slightly convex section and a depending peripheral section, and a carrier extending underneath the said cap and including a ring, the outer surfaces of said ring matching the inner surfaces of the depending peripheral section of the cap and of the peripheral portion of its main section, and arms starting from said ring and meeting one another to form with the ring and with each other an open-Work carrier structure for the cap.
6. A crystal adapted to be fitted in the rim of a timepiece, comprising a cap fitted in the rim and made of unbreakable transparent material and a carrier fitted inside the inner surface of the cap and the inner surface of which is flush with the inner surface of the cap, said carrier including a ring matching the inner periphery of the cap and arms starting from said ring and meeting one another to form with the ring and with each other an open-work carrier structure for the cap.
