Description

1955 c. CHRISTIANSEN ET AL 2,735,451
CIRCULAR LOOMS FOR WEAVING OF HOSES Filed Aug. 10. 1953 United States Patent CIRCULAR Loos/is non WEAVKNG or nests Christian Christiansen, Sslo, and Gustav fitto Karl Riisch, Mandai, Norway Application August 10, 1953, Serial No. 373,357
4 Claims. (61. l39--l3) The present invention relates to circular looms for weaving of hoses, of the kind in which the weaving takes place at the upper edge of a weaving ring, the Weft threads being pressed in between the warp threads by means of at least one rotating pressing member (sector) and in which the hose during the Weaving is pulled down through the weaving ring, and the invention resides in a device by means of which the inner side of the hose is calendered during the weaving.
Hereby it is obtained that the warp threads and weft threads are pressed closely together, whereby the tightness of the hoses is increased and its inner surface becomes smoother so that the friction of the water against the wall of the hose is decreased.
According to the invention a calender is used, the roller or rollers being positioned inside the weaving ring pressing the wall of the hose against the bore of the weaving ring. Preferably the calender comprises a rotary roller carrier, the axis of rotation of which coincides with the axis of the weaving ring and which is provided with at least one roller, rotating about its own axis and pressing the wall of the hose against the bore of the weaving ring. The pressure of the roller against the wall preferably should be adjustable, suitably by means of an adjustable spring. Preferably at least two rotary rollers are used, arranged diametrically opposite each other.
If a rotary roller carrier is used, the direction of rotation of the same may be opposite to the direction of rotation of the sectors, whereby the tendency of the warp threads to be laid in spirals in the hose, caused by the weft threads by their insertion, 1s eliminated or reduced.
The drawing illustrates in vertical section an embodiment of a calender according to the invention.
In the drawing, 1 is the weaving ring and 2 the warp threads. The calender comprises the rotary roller carrier 3, in the lower part of which the calender rollers 4, 4', which are freely rotatable about their vertical axes, are mounted in arms 5, 5' pivoted on pivots 6, 6'. In order to secure adjustment of the rollers 4, 4 with their axes parallel with the axis of the weaving ring and the hose, respectively, the rollers are mounted in holders '7, 7' which the turnable about horizontal pivots 8, 8 in the lower end of the arms 5, 5. For adjustment of the pressure of the rollers against the wall of the hose, adjusting screws 9, 9 are provided in the upper part of the arms 5, 5', the adjustment being effected by screwing these screws more or less into threaded bores in the roller carrier. In order to obtain an elastic pressure of the rollers against the wall of the hose, springs 11, 11 are provided between the heads 10, 10 of the screws and the arms 5, 5'.
We claim:
1. A circular loom for weaving of hoses of the type comprising a weaving ring at the upper edge of which the weaving is effected, including a calender comprising the weaving ring and at least one roller vertically journalled in the interior of the weaving ring and supported adjacent the wall of the latter below the top edge of the same.
2. A circular loom as claimed in claim 1, including at least two calender rollers arranged in pairs disposed diametrically to the axis of the Weaving ring.
3. A circular loom as claimed in claim 1, including means urging the rollers of the calender towards the inner surface of the weaving ring.
4. A circular loom as claimed in claim 1, wherein the roller assembly as a whole is rotatively supported within the weaving ring.
