The chimneys used on incandescentmantlelamps, Vfand their supporting means, have included,manyshapes,and forms developed to solve the Yproblem of .attaching `a clear glass chimney to a metal :base infsuchg-a wayas .to have the chimney selectively removableffrom theffbase, but not inadvertently removable therefrom. lfheseearlier chimney mountings andshapesfhave in'cluded,fsubsequent to the early perforated ,mounting ring and A:perfectly circular chinmey, variouslocking Yand cam devices provided to furnish a connection which is `substantiallypermanent unless intentionally disengaged. A-,prinaipalvrsoureefof difficulty with these prior devices.has'beengthantheeam action required has exceeded the distortion capabilities of the glass, resulting in broken'chimneys,:ontheeglass has been stressed in such a manner;thatrrepeatedfheatings and coolings will accelerate its crystallization `and-s11b sequent failure.
It is necessary, in obtaining maximum vgeiificiency fin incandescent mantle lamps, tojprovide sucientfsecondary air to obtain substantially-complete .combustiongfandg'to permit adequate cooling of ,ther gallerygandr-.ofthe burner parts. If the burner becomes overheated the j flowiof fuel through the wick lincreases .to=.such .fanfgextent Lthat the fuel runs down along the wick tubes. However, it is not desirable to admit too much airfto the burner between the chimney and the gallery-because anexeessively large air gap permits drafts and air currentsto blowout the flame. Consequently the normal galleries arej`provided with an outer ring supporting'the chimney withgafnarrow air gap therebetween. This construction results in intimate contact between the vchimney arrdthe galleryvover a large surface area and' frequently leadsito the increased ilow of fuel referred to abov It is therefore an object of this invention to provide a chimney mounting structure having minimum contact with both the chimney and the gallery part of an incandescent burner.
A further object is to provide a chimney mounting structure which oiers maximum permissible air passage from outside the lower part of the chimney into the combustion area of the burner.
A further object is to provide a chimney having its lower end shaped to cooperate with the new chimney mounting structure, and so formed as to permit the locking of the chimney on the body of the burner without unduly stressing the chimney or the mounting structure.
Further objects and advantages will be apparent from a study of the following description in connection with the accompanying drawings in which,

The chimney supporting structure comprises three sup- ;porting clips25imountedat 120 to each other andsup- `ported ,by .the lower flange 15 of the gallery body 14. ,Each clip.25 has a substantially Vveitical mounting plate 26, Aahorizontal base/27, `and an upstanding `cam fol- .'lower edge 28. Above the mounting face 26 thereis .positioned aretaining arm 29 which is shaped to permit 0 easy rotation of a chimney 30 in the mountingstructure.
It is to be noted, especially from Fig. 2,-that themounting devices ,25 are fairly small and .take up little of the annular airpassage area available. This permits maxi- =rnum. air movement between the gallery body 14and ,the chimney 30.
The chimney 30 is of conventional structure down to .a point a short'distance above its base. The portion of the chimney detailed in Figs. 3, 4, 5 and 6 is unconven- .tional and` provides cam-acting and locking means adapted for use with the chimney support devices 25.

These entrance channels 32 provide spaces which .permit the passage of the retaining arms 29 a suiiicient distance into lthe chimney 3.0;to permit the chimney then to be rotated 1so.,that thev beads `31 will underlie the `arms 29. VThree stop dimples 33 are also pressed into the wall of the chimney 30 immediately above the respective retaining beads 31. With this construction the chimney may be slipped over the outside of the three mounting devices 25 and bottomed on the base plate 27 thereof without in any way distorting the chimney or stressing the retainer arms 29. Then, as the chimney is rotated to lock the beads 31 in position under the arms 29, the stop dimples 33 are engaged by the arms 29 when the preferred position is obtained, without stressing the chimney or distorting the retainer arm 29.
A plurality of locking cams 34 are provided at the lowermost extremity of the chimney 30. The cams 34 are constituted by three areas in which the side walls of the chimney 30 are distorted outwardly, with the center point of each cam 34 positioned approximately centrally between the mid-point of the stop dimple 33 and the near edge of the related entrance passage 32.
When the chimney 30 is assembled as above described, and rotated, the cam surfaces 34 will be engaged by the 3 cam follower faces 2S. Rotation of the chimney 30, by reason of this engagement and camming action, will center the chimney 30 with respect to the mounting devices 25 and position the retainer beads 31 in proper alignment with respect to the retainer arms 29. Rotation of the chimney 30 is suliicient, prior to the engagement of the stop dimple with the retaining arm 29, to permit the center of the cam 34 to pass beyond the center of the cam follower 28. This will provide a locking of the chimney in the desired position.
Having described my invention what l desire to protect by Letters Patent and claim is:
1. In a fuel burning lamp having a burner thereon, the combination comprising an annular supporting member adapted to be mounted on the burner, a plurality of angularly spaced chimney supporting clips mounted on said annular member at equal angular intervals around the periphery thereof, each of said clips being formed of flat sheet material and being of generally U-shaped form, each of said clips including a liat horizontal portion disposed in a transverse radial plane, each of said clips having opposed inner and outer lingers projecting upwardly from said horizontal portion in radially spacedapart relation, each of said inner lingers having a lug portion at its upper end projecting radially outwardly, a chimney detachably mounted on said clips, said chimney being generally tubular and open-ended in form, said chimney having a generally cylindrical lower wall portion with an annular lower edge engaging said horizontal portions of said clips, said lower wall portion having a plurality of substantially horizontal arcuate inwardly projecting ridges spaced around the inside of said lower wall portion at equal angular intervals, said ridges corresponding in number and in angular disposition to said clips, said lower Wall portion having arcuate substantially cylindrical entrance elements disposed between said ridges for passing said lugs on said inner lingers, said chimney being rotatable on said clips between a released position with said entrance elements alined with said inner lingers to permit upward withdrawal of said chimney and a locked position angularly displaced in one direction from said released position with said lugs on said inner lingers disposed above said ridges and engaged therewith in interlocking relation, said lower wall portion having a plurality of inwardy projecting stop elements disposed along said ridges and engaging said inner lingers with said chimney in said locked position to define said locked position and prevent rotation of said chimney beyond said locked position, said lower wall portion having a plurality of outwardly projecting cam locking lobes corresponding in number and angular spacing to said clips, said locking lobes projecting outwardly to a circle of a diameter at least as great as that oi' a circle encompassing the insides of said outer lingers, said lobes being positioned angularly between said entrance elements and said stop elements so that said lobes will pass said outer lingers in the course of rotation of said chimney between said released and said locked positions, said lobes engaging said outer lingers in said locked position and resisting counter rotation of said chimney to said released position.
2. In a chimney for a burner having a plurality of U-shaped chimney supporting clips thereon, each with a base portion, an outer lnger projecting upwardly from the outer edge of said base portion, and an inner linger projecting upwardly from said base portion in inwardly spaced relation to said outer linger and having an outwardly projecting lug at the upper end of said inner linger, the combination comprising a generally tubular openended body having a generally cylindrical lower wall portion terminating in a downwardly facing annular edge adapted to engage and be supported on the base portions of the clips, said lower wall portion having a plurality of arcuate inwardly projecting ridges spaced above said lower edge and extending substantially parallel thereto along the inside of said lower wall portion at equal angular intervals, said lower wall portion having arcuate, substantially cylindrical entrance elements disposed between said ridges for passing said lugs on said inner lingers, said chimney being receivable on the clips vand being rotatable between a released position with said entrance elements alined with the inner lingers to permit insertion and withdrawal of said chimney and a locked position angularly displaced in one direction from said released position with the lugs on the inner ngers disposed above said ridges and engaged therewith in interlocking relation, said lower wall portion having a plurality of inwardly projecting stop elements disposed along said ridges in angularly spaced relation to said entrance elements for engaging the inner lingers with said chimney in said locked position to prevent rotation of said chimney beyond said locked position, said lower wall portion having a plurality of outwardly projecting cam lobes spaced at equal angular intervals around the outer periphery thereof for engaging the outer fingers on the clips, said lobes being oriented angularly between said entrance elements and said stopelements so that said lobes will be moved 'over-center beyond their positions of alinement with the outer lingers in rotating the chimney into said locked position with the inner iingers engaging said stop elements, said cam lobes thereby resisting counter rotation of said chimney to said released position.
