1 Claim. (Cl. 223-42) The present invention relates to a novel device or means for facilitating the turning of hose or stockings and particularly relatively sheer womans hose whereby to facilitate such turning with maximum safety and without danger of the hose or stockings becoming snagged or damaged.
Womens hose of nylon, silk or other relatively sheer materials are normally formed of relatively line or thin i fibers or laments that may be readily and easily snagged as they 'are turned or inverted and thus they require most careful handling. Generally, such turning is accomplished by the housewife or wearer inserting her hand and arm into the hose or stocking, grasping the interior of the toe end and withdrawing this end rearwardly through the open end of the leg portion of the hose or stocking. Although most women appreciate that this method is not satisfactory for the slightest projection or roughness of the skin coming into contact with the hose is apt to snag one or more of its fine or thin threads or bers and result in a run, snag or other darnage to the hose, no device is commercially available for accomplishing this result.
The present invention obviates the difficulties inherent in the above recited method or manner of turning or inverting a hose or stocking for by my invention the toe end is resiliently yet rmly anchored at one end of the present device which is projected longitudinally through the hose and then all that is required to turn the hose or stocking is for the housewife or wearer to grasp the upper end of the hose or stocking and withdraw it rearwardly over the device whereby the turning or inverting of the hose or stocking is quickly accomplished without any danger of snagging or catching of the threads or filaments of the stocking onto the device.
It is, therefore, an object of the present invention to provide a novel device for the turning or inverting of hose or stockings quickly, conveniently and without danger' of damage. f
Further objects are to provide a construction of maxi mum simplicity, efficiency, economy and ease of operation, and such further objects, advantages and capabilities as will later more fully appear and are inherently possessed thereby.

Referring to the disclosure in the drawing and more particularly to the novel illustrative embodiment of the present invention, it comprises a turning or reversing device 10 provided with a smooth handle 11 of a length adapted to extend through a hose or stocking 12 for its complete length, and at its outer end preferably provided with a collar 13 having an eye or other suitable means 14 permitting the device to be hung or supported when not in use. metal or any suitable material that is capable of being given and to maintain a smooth finish whereby it may be inserted or removed from the stocking or hose without danger of snagging.
At its other or outer end, the handle il receives, a pair of resilient arms or leaf springs 15 and 16, preferably formed of ilat strips of spring metal having one end of each anchored in a recess or embedded in the outer end of the handle, and the other or outer end of each arm projecting beyond a collar 17 encompassing this outer end of the handle. The other or outer end of each arm 15 and 16 is embedded in a rounded or bulbous part 13 which may be of wood, plastic or other suitable material capable of receiving and maintaining a smooth surface.
The rounded or bulbous parts 18 are normally held by the resilient arms 16 and 17 in contacting engagement with a spring tension suflicient to receive and retain the toe end 19 of the stocking or hose 12, As shown in the drawings when the device 1i) is inserted to the position shown in Fig. 1, theserounded ends or parts 1S may be easily and quickly forced apart to receive and grip the toe 19 of the stocking when the toe is forced therebetween to the position shown. Then the housewife or user need merely grasp the other or open end 22 of the stocking and withdraw the stocking over the handle toward the toe end, whereupon the stocking will be turned or inverted and the toe 19 may be easily withdrawn.
Having thus disclosed the invention, I claim:
A device for turning a stocking, consisting of a handle adapted to be inserted into the stocking and having resilient gripping members aixed to one end of the handle with said handle and gripping members being of a combined length whereby the other end of the handle projects beyond the open end of the stocking, said gripping members each comprising a leaf spring provided with an enlarged, rounded part atlxed to the free end of each said leaf spring for insertion into the toe end of the stocking and tensionaliy forced together for gripping the interior toe end of the stocking when this toe end is inserted between said rounded parts and tensionally retained thereby while the other endof the stocking is turned back and withdrawn over the handle.
