While this casing might be made in various forms, in the embodiment of the invention here illustrated, said casing is shown to be generally parallelepiped in form having a front wall 10a, 2. front cover 10b, a top cover 100, sides Me and 10), a bottom 10g and a back wall 1%. Said cover 1012 has a handle 10b. An offset portion 10m is provided about the upper side and front edge portions of member 10 to provide a stop for cover 10c and to enable the Wall 1012 and the front of cover 10c to be in flush position when said cover is closed. Said member 10 is here shown to have chambers 10: and 10f. Said chamber ltli has a bottom 10k therein. Said casing 10 is provided with a handle 11 which is secured to said upper cover 100 by rivets 12. Said cover 100 is hingedly secured to casing 10 by a hinge 13. Cover 10b is hingedly secured to casing 10 by a hinge 14. Said casing 10 may be made of any suitable material and preferably may be made of sheet metal material. Secured to the upper portion of side 10a are guide members 15 which have a lower portion secured to said side as by welding, and have upper offset portions 15a forming guides. Said members 15 are disposed in spaced pairs adjacent either end portion of side 10a. Disposed in said guide portions 15a and movable therein is a bar 17. Said bar is disclosed here as being made of sheet material generally rectangular in cross section and extending for the greater length of said side 10a. Spaced members 18 are secured to side 10a to form a lower edge support and guide for said member 17. Said members 18 are here shown to be nutted bolts secured to said side 10a. Said bar 17 has a member secured to the mid-portion thereof being U-shaped in horizontal section and forming a keeper. A look 20 is provided. Said lock is secured to the mid-portion of said side 10a and is disposed slightly below the lower edge portion of said bar 17. Said lock 20 has a revolving barrel 20:: disposed therein, and secured to the inner end portion of said barrel 20a is a cam 20b. Said cam is rigidly secured to said barrel. Said lock is held in position on said side ltln by a lock nut 20c. Said lock nut 20c has small spaced lugs 20d secured thereto to limit the rotatable movement of said cam 20b. Said cam 20b is adapted to be disposed in said keeper 17a.
Secured to said member 17 are spaced members 25 and 26. Said members 25 and 26 may be secured to member 17 in any suitable manner, such as by welding. Said members 25 and 26 respectively have right-angled upper end portions 25a and 26a. Thus members 25 and 26 form latch members. Secured to cover 100 are members 27 and 28. Said members 27 and 28 have lower end portions forming loops 27a and 28a and said loops are generally rectangular in vertical section and may be made of any suitable material, such as straps of sheet metal. When said cover 100 is in closed position, said members 27a and 28a are disposed on the inner upper edge portion of said side 10a. Said members 25a and 26:: are adapted respectively to be disposed in said members 27a and 28a. Said members 15 serve to limit the longitudinal movement of said bar 17.
Pivotally secured to the lower end portions of members 25 and 26 respectively are members 30 and 31. Said members 30 and 31 are secured to said members 25 and 26 respectively by pivots 33. Said members 30 and 31 form latch members, being linked with latch members 25 and 26 and are operable therewith.
Secured to wall i adjacent the bottom 10k are members 37 and 38 having offset portions 37a and 38a .respectively forming guides. In alignment with said members 37 and 38 and disposed through said bottom 10?: are slotted openings 39 and 40.
Secured to the upper edge portion of cover 10!; and in alignment with openings 39 and 4b are members 42 and 43. Members 42 and 43 respectively have upper offset portions 42a and 43a. Said members 42 and 43 may be secured to said cover 10b in any suitable manner, as by welding.
In the operation of applicants device, the member 17 will be moved endwise by turning key 21 in lock 20. In the embodiment of the invention here illustrated, said key is turned clockwise, said bar 17 will move to the right of said casing 10 and latch members 25a and Zea will become disengaged from the keepers 27 and 28. Thus the cover 100 is unlocked and may be lifted upwardly. As part of the same operation above described, when said bar 17 is moved to the right, latch members 33 and 3.1 will be drawn upwardly through slots 39 and 4t) and will be disengaged from keepers 42 and 43. Thus cover 10b will become unlocked and may be opened outwardly. The longitudinal movement of bar 17 is limited by the spaced members and also the lugs d on lock nut 20c. Said member 17 moves in channels formed by portions 15a of said members 15 and is also supported by guide members 18.
When it is desired to lock casing 10, said covers 19c and 10b will be placed in closed position and the key 21 will be turned counter-clockwise. As key 21 is turned, the revolving barrel 20a and the cam 26b will be turned. Said cam engages keeper 17a and thus moves member 17 to the left. Latch members a and 2641 will then engage keepers 27 and 28. Simultaneously with the above operation, the link latch members 39 and 31 will be guided by members 37 and 38 through openings 39 and 40 and into keepers 42 and 43. Thus the cover 100 is locked against upward movement and the cover 10b is locked against any outward movement.
Thus it is seen that I have provided a locking device of very simple and efiicient construction which is adapted to lock or unlock a plurality of covers in a casing with said covers opening in different planes. Applicants device has been fully tested in operation and has proved to be very successful.
