JOHN KRUMMENAUER, OF BROOKLYN, ASSIGNOR T O FREDERICK DIETZ,
' OF NEW YORIQN. Y.
TUBULAR LAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 272,841, dated February 20, 1888.
Application filed August 7, 1882; (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
' .Be it known that 1, JOHN KRUMMENAUER, of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tubular Lamps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Myinvention relates especially tolamps constructed upon the tubular principle, and has for its object the production of a devicewhich may be employed either as a wall, hanging, or portable lamp, as occasion may require; and it consists essentially in providing the lamp with a bail and a supporting device, which may be left upon the lamp while transporting from place to place,or removed therefrom, at the pleasure ofthe user; and my invention involves certain novel and useful combinations or arrangements of parts and peculiarities of construction and operation, all ot'which will be hereinafter first fully described, and then pointed out in the claims.
The drawing presented herewith illustrates in elevation a lamp constructed in accordance with my invention, together with the removable support therefor.
A are the feed-air tubes through which the burner receives its supply to support combustion.
B is the globe or chimney.
C is the lamp-pot, and C is an air-chamber located below the lamp-pot.
Upon the exterior of tubes A, at E, are located in a vertical position sections of small tubing, and at Ecorresponding sections placed in a horizontal position, said tubes being adapted and arranged to receive the extremities of the wires of a supporting device, G, by which the lamp may be suspended and;held in place, when rings G are passed over nails or other suitable projections. At His located a socket, with which the support of a reflector may engage when desired.
J is a bail, secured to the top of the lantern by ears J, for the purpose ot'carrying the same from place to place or suspending from overhead. I
J is a guard or base, construeted of wire, and secured to the bottom of the air-chamber by which the lamp may be supported when placed upon the door, ground, &c., and which will not obstruct the light when the lamp is supported in an elevated position.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination, with a lamp of the character. herein specifier], having an open foot or guard at bottom and abai-l at top, of a removable supporting device the arms whereof are adapted and arranged to engage with sockets prepared for their reception upon the air-supply tubes or body of the lamp, substantially as shown and described.
' 2. The combination, with tubes A, whereonare located short sections ot'tubing E and E, of a removable supporting device, G, substantially as shown and described.
3. A removable supporting device for lanterns, having rings G at top, and being provided with arms adapted and arranged to engage with sections of tubing or sockets E and E upon the lamp, and in combination therewith, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN KRUMMENAUEH.
Witnesses F. W. HANAFORD, A. M. PIERCE.
