' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK HABERMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CUSPIDOR-MAT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 272,239, dated February 13, 1883. Application filed December 28, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FREDERICK HAIBERMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, haveinvented new and useful Improvements in Ouspidor-Mats, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a mat which shall be adapted to receive and sup port against lateral displacement a cnspidor of any usual or suitable construction; and to this end it consists in a mat which is provided with a central pan corresponding in shape to the base or bottom of the cuspidor, the mat being extended laterally beyond the pan, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 repre sents a vertical cross-section. Fig. 2is aplan or top view.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
The letter A designates the mat, and B a ring secured to a central portion thereof to form the pan or cuspidor receptacle (J, the mat constituting the bottom of such pan. Said ringB is curved or otherwise shaped in its cross-section to correspond with the base or bottom of the cuspidor, and hence the pan 0 is adapted to receive the cuspidor and to sup-.
port or sustain it against lateral displacement, the mat at the same time serving by its lateral extension to receive the articles that may be thrown at but not deposited in the cnspidor.
In the presentexampleof my invention both the mat and ring B are made of sheet metal; but it is evident that other materials may be employed.
It will be noticed that the mat is left entirely detached from the cuspidor, in which respect, among others, it differs from the mats heretofore used, and the advantages thereby gained are simplicity and cheapness, and also ability to remove the cuspidor without any adjustment of parts. I
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A cnspidor-mat provided with a central pan which corresponds in shape to the base or bottom of the cuspidor, thus forming a receptacle therefor, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK HABERMAN. [L 8.]
