Description

NOV. 1, 1955 RQDECK 2,722,109
REFRIGERATING DEVICE UTILIZING AN ENDOTHERMIC SALT Filed Sept. 11. 1950 IN VENTOR United States Patent REFRIGERATING DEVICE UTILIZING AN ENDOTHERMIC SALT Armin H. Rodeck, Waterfowl], N. Y.
Application September 11, 1950, Serial No. 184,183
2 Claims. (CI. 62-94) My invention relates to a refrigerating device on a similar principle as that described in the U. S. Patents No. 2,336,571 and 2,515,840, that is, the dissolution of an endothermic salt block in water, but featuring an important improvement upon the aforesaid constructions.
It is the object of this invention to provide an intensive cold as described in the above mentioned patents, however with the salt block divided in smaller parts and carried outside of the container as long as cold production is not needed and when there is a need for refrigeration the salt blocks are placed on a frame connected to the cover of the container.
Further objects and advantages will become apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 shows a vertical sectional view of the various parts of the refrigerator before assembling it.
Fig. 2 a vertical sectional view of the same refrigerator already assembled and in action.
In Fig. 1 the container 1 with a rod 2 in the center screwed into a bottom nut 3 is filled with ordinary water up to a mark 4; the cover 5 is provided with a rubber gasket 6 and a chest made from perforated sheet with one, two or more shelves 7 to keep in position the salt blocks 8 after they have, been inserted into their respective shelves.
When this is done, the cover 5 with the salt blocks 8 in position is put to the top of the container 1 and screwed down by means of the rod 2 and the knob 9 with inside thread, shown in Fig. 2. The refrigerating action starts in the same moment as the lower salt block gets into contact with the water and can be controlled at will by turning the knob 9 in one way or another, compressing more or less the rubber gasket 6 whereby the contact between salt and water becomes more or less close and consequently the production of cold more or less intensive.
I claim as my invention:
1. A refrigerating device comprising a container filled in part with a solvent, a cover for this container equipped with means to receive several refrigerating salt blocks and keep them in position while the dissolving action inside the container is going on and a member between cover and container to move said cover inside the container up or down changing in this manner the amount of contact between the refrigerating salt and solvent and controlling thereby the refrigerating effect.
2. A refrigerating device comprising a container filled in part with a solvent, several blocks of refrigerating salt to be pushed into a frame connected with the cover of said container and means to move said cover assembly inside the container up or down, changing in this manner the amount of contact between the refrigerating salt and solvent and controlling thereby the refrigerating effect.
