7 Claims. (Cl. 2-42) This invention relates to an improvement in brassieres and is particularly directed to the brassiere cups. This brassiere scientifically designed, is the latest creation to enhance figures, beauty by insuring a perfect fit regardless of shape or size. It is a vast improvement over the conventional brassieres. The semi-spherical open top breast cup will comfortably support a bust of ample proportion with a minimum of discomfort, molding the contours into seemingly smaller, youthful curves giving a glamorous uplift and separation.

This is achieved by its dome-shaped structure which resembles an Eskimo igloo in its semi-spherical design. The final result imparts an added touch of grace and natural beauty to the figure and pertains to a modification to the brassieres in my Patent Numbers 2,615,164 and 2,635,241 dated October 28, 1952, and April 21, 1953, respectively.

Another important object of this invention is to provide a brassiere cup comprising a concave and convex keystone segment, resembling substantially a modified vase, having secured thereto, two leaf shaped segments and two top segments slightly convex on the top side. When said segments are assembled, they form a hollow semi-spherical open top breast cup.

Other objects, advantages and features of the invention will hereinafter appear.

Referring in detail to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate preferred embodiments of the invention, which has been reduced to practice,

Fig. 2 is a plan view illustrating the segments of the brassiere of Fig. 1, slightly separated from each other, but approximately in their assembled relation.

Fig. 3 is another plan view showing the segments, slightly different in shape.

Fig. 4 is another plan view showing the modified segments of Fig. 3.

Fig. 5 is a side View of the completed open top breast cup, looking in the direction of the arrow it resembles an Eskimo-igloo.

Referring in detail to Fig. 1 of the drawing, the brassiere shown comprises two open top breast cups 2 and 4, with an opening A at the top. Encircling the cups is a front body portion 6, tucks 7 and 8, elastic sections 9 and 10, back encircling bands 11 and 12, hooks 13, and fragmentarily shown front straps 14 and 15.

To form an open top breast cup, the following procedure is used, referring to Fig. 2 of the drawings.

Segments

19 and 20 are stitched together along lines 18 and

22 and 23 are stitched along lines 21. The unit formed by the

19 and 20 is attached to the slightly longer side 24 of center segment 28 by stitching along lines 25. The same procedure is followed on

side segments

22 and 23, which are attached to side 26 of center segment 28 by stitching along lines 27. Open top A of the breast cup is formed by the top edges of center segment 28 and

top side segments

19 and 22. When this is completed, it forms a hollow dome-shaped open top breast cup.

Fig. 3 of the drawings shows a similar construction to Fig. 2 except that the shape o f the center segment is slightly different, being provided with a neck 32 having straight sides.

To form the open top breast cup shown in Fig. 4, center segment 3 resembles a modified vase and bottom side segments 1 and 5 are substantially leaf-shaped. Center segment 3 and bottom side segments 1 and 5 are stitched along

34 and 36. Top side segments 16 and 17, which resemble a modified trapezoid, are stitched together along lines 38. The lower unit of segments 1, 3 and 5 and the top unit of segments 16 and 17 are stitched to each other along

lines

40 and 42. The top concave edges of segments 16 and 17 form the open top breast cup A.

Fig. 5 shows a finished open top breast cup A ready to be secured into the aperture of the brassiere. Any part of the brassiere can be made of any suitable material.

Various changes may be made in details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof inherent therein.

I claim:

1. A breast cup for brassieres comprising a substantially vase shaped centerV segment having a slightly convex basal edge and a concave top edge, convex sides flaring upwardly from said basal edge and then progressively decreasing to a concave portion slightly above the center of said segment and resuming convexity to said concave top edge, two substantially leaf-shaped bottom side segments and two substantially trapezoidal top side segments disposed on opposite sides of said center segment, said side segments on each side of said center segment being attached to each other and to the side of said center segment, the top edges of said top side and center segments combining to form an open U-shaped top having an opening of substantially 50 at the circumferential edge of said breast cup.

A breast cup for brassieres comprising a substantially short vase shaped center segment having a slightly convex basal edge a straight top edge and convex sides flaring upwardly from said basal edge, two substantially leaf shaped bottom side segments disposed on opposite sides of said center segment and two substantially trapezoidal top segments disposed above said bottom segments, all of said segments being stitched together along their adjacent edges, with the line of attachment between the edges of said top and bottom segments forming a hori zontal line extending across said breast cup transversely to said center segment, said segments forming an open top breast cup, with the top edges of said top segments being concave and combining to form the top circumferential edge of said breast cup.

A breast cup for brassieres comprising a substantially vase shaped center segment having a substantially concave top edge, a slightly convex basal edge, and convex sides flaring upwardly from said basal edge and then decreasing to a concave portion adjacent the top edge of said segment, two substantially leaf-shaped lower side segments disposed on opposite sides of said center segment, each of said lower side segments having a convex upper edge and a convex lower edge, each of said lower side segments having its lower side edge attached to one side of said center segment, and two substantially trapezoidal upper side segments, each of said upper side segments having a slightly convex lower side edge and a concave upper side edge, the lower side edges of said upper side segments being attached to the top edges of said lower side segments, all of said segments combining to form a complete breast cup and the concave upper side edges ofjsaid top segments combining to form the open top of said breast cup.

4, A breast cup for brassieres comprising a substantially vase shaped center segment having a slightly convex basal edge and a concave top edge, convex sides flaring outwardly from said basal edgeand then decreasing to provide a non-convex portion adjacent the upper portion of said center segment, Vtwo substantially leafv shaped bottom side segments and two substantially(trapezoidal top side segments disposed on opposite sides of said center segment, said side segments on each side of said center segment being attached to each` other and to the side of said center segment, all of said segments combining to form an open top breast cup. l

, 5,V A breast cup for brassieres comprising a substantially vaseshaped center segment having a slightly convex basal edge and convex sides flaring upwardly from said basal edgetwo substantially leaf shaped bottom side segments disposed on opposite sides of said center segment and two substantially trapezoidal top side segments disposed above said bottom side segments, all of said segments, being `stitched together along their adjacent edges, with the line of attachment between the edges of said top and bottom side segments forming a horizontal line extendingacross said breast cup transversely to said center segment, said segments forming a breast cup of substantially 310, with the top edges of said top segments being concave and combining to form a U-shaped open ing of substantially 50 at the top circumferential edge of said breast cup.

6. A breast cup for brassieres comprising a substantially vase shaped center segment having a substantially straight top edge, a slightly convex basal edge, and convex sides flaring upwardly from said basal edge and then decreasing to a concave portion adjacent the top edge of said segment, two substantially leaf-shaped lower side segments disposed on opposite sides of said center segment, each of said lower side segments having a convex upper edge and a convex lower edge, each of said lower side segments having its lower side edge attached to one side of said center segment, and two substantially trapezoidal upper side segments, each of said upper side seg ments having a slightly concave lower side edge and a convex upper side edge, the lower side edges of said upper side segments being attached to the top edges of said lower side segments, all of said lsegments combining to form a complete breast cup land the concave upper side edges of said top segments combining to form the sides of a U-shaped opening of substantially adjacent the top of said breast cup.

A breast cup for brassieres comprising a substantially vase shaped center segment having a slightly convex basal edge and a concave top edge, convex sides flaring outwardly from said basal edge and then decreasing t provide a non-e'onvex portion adjacent the upper portion of said 'center segment, two substantially leaf shapedv bottom Side segments and two substantially trape'zoidal top' side segments disposed on opposite sides of said center segment, said side segments on each side of said center segment being attached to each other and to the side of said center segment, the top edges of said top side and center segments combining to form an open U-shaped top having an opening of substantially 50 at the top circumferential edge of said breast cup.
