Description

Oct. 18, 1955 v. J. NURM! 2,720,675
CARRYING HANDLE Filed Jan. 26, 1953 FIG. 2
INVENTOR VILHQ J. NURMI MM,MMPWMQ ATTORNEYS United States Patent CARRYING HANDLE Vilho Johannes Nurmi, Helsinki, Finland Application January 26, 1953, Serial No. 333,273 Claims priority, application Finland October 22, 1952 1 Claim. (Cl. 16-126) The invention relates to a carrying frame for containers of various types such as boxes, pails and the like.
Carrying frames made of metal strip material or bent sheet material are inconvenient to carry. It has been proposed to provide such carrying frames with a handle of wood or other suitable material in order to make the carrying easier, but such separate carrying handles are expensive.
The present invention relates to a new and improved carrying frame convenient to handle and carry and extremely cheap to manufacture. A feature of this carrying frame is that its central part is bent to form a sinuous curve which is undulated like a wave over a length which substantially corresponds to the width of a normal hand. By virtue of the undulated portion of the carrying frame, the central portion rests easier in the hand of the carrier and provides a larger surface than is the case of a carrying flame of known type consisting of a metal strip. Further, the frame of the present invention is considerably cheaper to make than a frame provided with a separate handle. Besides this the carrying frame according to the invention may be manufactured of very thin and cheap metal strip or wire without any sacrifice in mechanical strength.
The invention is further explained with reference to the enclosed drawing which represents a diagrammatic view of a suitable embodiment of the carrying frame. In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a side view of the carrying frame.
Fig. 2 shows the same seen from above.
The central part of the carrying frame is designated 1 and is shaped in the form of a sinuous undulating wave or curve arranged and situated in horizontal position when the carrying frame is used. At the ends 2 of the carrying frame, there are loops 3 which are adapted to be fastened to the container, by fastening means such as by means of ears.
The metal rod or strip material of the carrying frame material should be strong enough to avoid a straightening out of the waves due to the weight of the object being carried.
Having now described the nature of my invention I declare that what I claim is:
Carrying means for a container comprising a single length of metallic wire having means at the ends thereof for removable attachment to said container and having the central portion bent to 'form a plurality of undulating curves, said length of wire being curved in a direction perpendicular to the direction in which said curves undulate, said central portion forming a hand grip.
