SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 271,830, dated February 6, 1883.

Be it known that I, PATRICK GALLAGHER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new andimproved Machine for Scrubbing Floors, of which the following 'is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved machine by means ofwhich floorscan be scrubbed easily, rapidly, and conveniently.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of-this specification, inwhich similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a'plan view of my improved floor-scrubbingmachine. Fig.2 is a cross-sectional elevation of the same on linear 00, Fig. 1.
The tank A, made of wood or metal, and of any desired or suitable shape, but preferably made semi-cylindrical, as shown,'is supported by rollers or casters a, attached to the lower edge of the circular frame B, on which this tank A rests, one-halfof this frame projecting from thestraight side of the tank. The faucets Q project from the straightside of the tank A into the projecting part of the frame B, asv shown. A vertical shaft,D, isjournaled on the tank A, in front of the straight side of the same, and on its upper. end is mounted a pulley, E, over which a belt, F, pa'sses,- which also passes over a pulley, G, the shaft of which is provided with a crank-handle, H, for rotatingthis pulley G, whereby the pulley E and the shaft D will be rotated. Two crossed arms, J, are attached to the lower end of the shaft D, and at the endsof these arms brushes K are held loosely,which brushes rest on the floor. These brushes are provided with upwardly-projecting pin tles or rods cl,.which pass through apertures in the arms J, thus permitting the brushes to move upped down slightly and adjust themselves automatically in these arms J A semicircular frame, L, surrounds the rear part of the circular frame B, and to its lower edge is attached a rubber strip, M, of

The operation isas'follows: The tank A is filled with soapsuds or water mixed with any other cleaning-liquid used in cleaning floors. The brushes K are adjustable in the arms J, and the rubber strip or band M is pressed on the floor by means of the nuts 3' and washers 70. Then the operator opens the faucets G moreor less and rotates the armsJ carrying the brushes by turning the handle H, and moves the entire machine over the floor to be cleaned.
