Be it known that I, MICHAEL Violin, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in I Floor Scrubbing and Wiping Machines, of which the following is'a. specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to a'floor scrubbing and wiping machine, and the primary ob+- ject of my invention is to provide in'a manner as hereinafter set forth a machine that can be advantageously used in large oflice buildings and auditoriums for scrubbing and With the above and other objects view, the invention resides in the novel construc-' tion, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.

Reference will now be had to the drawings, wherein like numerals denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a machine in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of the same, Fig. 3 is a plan of the machine, Fig. 4 is a perspective view" of a portion of the adjustable frame of the machine, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a detached collecting trough.

A machine in accordancewith this invention comprises longitudinal side frames 1 connected by cross heads 2 and a flat plate 3, said fiat plate having a central opening 4 formed therein. The side frames 1 are provided with depending supports 5 and adjustably connected to said supports are legs 6 having longitudinal side frames 7, said legs and said side frames constituting a lower frame adapted to adjustably support the upper frame of the machine. Meshing with the teeth: 17 of the beveled 5 gear wheel .16 is a large ear wheel 21 mounted upon a shaft 22, ournaled in a bearing 23, carried by one of the supports 5. The large gear wheel-21 has an eccentrichandle or crank 24, whereby the large gear wheel can be revolved with one hand, while the machine is moved with the other.

Mounted upon the drum 26 is a cover 28 having layers of felt or other absorbent material 29, said drum constituting a rotary absorbent roller that supports the rear end of the machine. The drum or cylinder 27 has the cover 30 provided with a brush or bristles 31, said drum and the bristles thereof constituting a rotary brushsupporting the forward end of the machine.

Arranged within the opening 4: of the plate 3 is a receptacle 32 supported within the opening 4 by a plurality of radially disposed brackets 33 detachably connected to the plate 3 by bolts 34: and nuts 35. Riveted or otherwise connected to the bottom of the receptacle 32, as at 36 is a trough plate 37 having the ends thereof provided with perforated troughs 38. These troughs are 10- The frames 7, at the ends of the trough 43 are provided with-bearings for a revoluble roller 46 adapted to engage the felt cover 29 of the absorbent roller and rinse water from the material.

The receptacle 32 can contain water or a liquid detergent mixture and by regulating the faucet or spigot 40 above the rotary brush, a desired amount of liquid can drip on to the rotary brush. Two outlets are provided for the receptacle'32 in case it is desired to substitute a rotary brush for the absorbent roller, as might be done in a very large building where a number of the machines equipped with rotary brushes can be used in connection with a number of machines equipped With absorbent rollers, one machine following the other, similar to the absorbent roller following the rotary brush.

When the large gear wheel 21 is revolved with one hand, the machine is moved over the floor to be scrubbed and to facilitate its movement, the machine can be pushed with the other hand, the two hands cooperating in quickly moving the scrubbing machine. As the rotary brush contacts with the floor, the bristles remove such dirt and foreign matter that adheres thereto, and the dirty water left upon the floor by the brush is absorbed by the absorbent roller. The foreign matter is removed from the absorbent material through the medium of the roller 46 and as the foreign matter enters the collecting trough 43, it is conveyed to the basin or receptacle 41 by the spout 42.

It is through the medium of the adjust able frames of the machine that the upper frame can be lowered to compensate for the Wear and tear upon the rotary brush and absorbent roller and to facilitate the movement of the machine over a floor, the lower ends of the legs 6 are provided with rollers or casters 47.

In order ,thatthe machine can be used against or in proximity 'to the wainscoting of a Wall, an auxiliary rotary brush 48 is mounted upon the end ofthe shaft opposite that end having the beveled gear Wheel 16 and. an auxiliary absorbent roller 49 is mounted upon that end of the shaft 12 opposite the beveled gear wheel 15. In some instances these auxiliary devices can be dispensed with and the invention is not limited to their use.

The machine can be made of light and durable metal and of various sizes.

What I claim is A floor scrubbing and wiping machine comprising a rotary scrubbing roll, a rotary absorbent roll, a trough adjacent .the surface of the absorbent roll, a wringer roll rotatable within the trough, a collection receptacle, and a conduit leading from the trough to the receptacle.
