NON HEAT GUNDUCIING ENVELOPE FOR IGB CREAM, 6m. No.- 271,898. A Patented Peb.6,18'88.
,. um 'n' UNITED STATES INIORDECAI T. FUSSELL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
NON-HEAT-CONDUCTING ENVELOPE FOR ICE-CREAM, 85C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 271,698, dated February G, 1883.
Application filed November 6, 18S-2. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORDEOAI T. FUSSELL, of the city and State ot' New York, have invented an Improvement in Non-Conducting Envelopes for Ice-Creain, Water-lees, Ste., of which the following is a specification.
Ice-cream, water-ices, Sto., are commonly sold in the saloons and other places to be carried tothe home of the purchaser, and it is customary to put said cream in paper boxes of various sizes. These boxes alone do not prevent the cream or ice melting more or less. Hence the envelope for icecream, Src., patented to me May 30, 1882, No.'258,640, was designed to obviate these objectionable features, and provide an envelope that would keep the cream for an hour or more without its melting. This object it accomplishes; but the envelope is too costly.
My present invention relates to a non-conducting envelope for ice-cream, Src., which is cheaply made, and which accomplishes all that the more expensive envelope will do.
Said invention consists in combining with the package or box oi' ice-cream or similar material, end pieces held in place on the box and a wrapper of l'elt rolled around the box and extending over the edges ofthe end pieces, so as to etl'ectually incluse the same from air.
In the drawings, Figure l is a longitudinal section ot' the said envelope, and Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same.
The box c is usually made of thick paper, and into the saine the ice-cream or similar niaterial is placed andinclosed by a cover inany known or desired manner. The boxes are usually kept in a refrigerator until required for use.
My improved envelope consists of awrapper of thick felt, b, and end pieces, o c', and it is preferable to apply this' Wrapper in the following manner: The end pieces, of felt, o c', are placed at the end of the box and secured by one or more-bands 0f rubber passed around the same. 'The wrapper b, of felt, is as Wide as the length of the box with the end pieces, c o', added, and long enough to go around the box two or three times. I roll said wrapper around the box and secure the same by rubber bands d, passed around the saine in different directions.
Instead of the rubber bands, I sometimes use string, and I prefer to inclose the Wrapper and box in paper'before it leaves the store. A handle may be attached to the string, so as to carry the package conveniently.
I claim as my invention;-
In combination with the box or package of ice-cream or similar material, the end pieces,
c c', held upon the paper box, and the wrapper of' feltrolled around the box and extending over the edges of the end pieces, c c', substantially as specified.
Signed by ine this 2d day of November, A.
