A bypass connection 53 is provided between the cylinder 12 and the cylinder 11 and a similar bypass connection 54 is provided between the cylinder 12 and the cylinder 13. As illustrated in Figure 6, the bypass connection 53 is provided with a slide valve 55 having an opening 56 therethrough and the valve 55 is resiliently held in a position to close the bypass with a spring 56, the tension of which is adapted to be adjusted by a plug 57. A similar slide valve 58 having an opening 59 therethrough is provided in the by-pass 54 and the valve 58 is resiliently held with a spring 60 which is held by a plug 61 which also provides means for adjusting the tension of the spring. 7
With the valve 51 closed pumping action of the lever 26 builds up pressure in the cylinders 11, 12 and 13,
whereby the plungers are moved toward the opposite ends of the cylinders with driving dies 62 and 63 driven by a head 64 on the end of the plunger 14 and similar dies 65 and 66 driven by a head 67 carried by the plunger 15 driving staples or wire clips 68 from the magazine sections, as illustrated in Figure 8 whereby the clips are driven to arcuate grooves 69 in the die 22 so that the clips are clinched around a cable 70 extended through the machine.
As the clamping dies or drivers enter the head or closure cap 23, the blade 17 of the plunger 16 is in the position shown in Figure 8 whereby it is in engagement with the cable and at this point pressure is built up sufficiently in the cylinders 11 and 13 to move the slide valves 55 and 58 downwardly opening lower sections 71 and 72 of the bypass whereby additional fluid pumped with the continued operation of the lever 26 builds up pressure in the center cylinder 12 sufiiciently to drive the cutting blade 17 through the cable with the blade entering a recess 73 in the die 22.
At this point and with the cable cut and wire clips clinched around the ends the valve 51 is opened with the thumb screw 52 whereby the pressure is relived and the plungers are returned, the plungers 14 and 15 being returned with the springs 74 and 75 and the plunger 16 with the spring 76.
The heads 64 and 67 from which the wire clip actuating dies extend are provided with studs 77 that are threaded into openings 78 in the ends of the plungers, as shown in Figure 3. The ends of the cylinders 11 and 13 are provided with threaded collars 79 and 80 against which the ends of the springs 74 and 75 are positioned. The cylinder 12 is provided with pins 81 and 82 that extend inwardly to engage the surface of the plunger 16 whereby the pins are engaged by the end of the spring 76 to retain the spring in position.
The closure cap 23 in which the die 22 is positioned is pivotally mounted by a pin 83 and the upper part is provided with a holding plate 84 which is pivotally connected to the cap 23 with a pin 85 which extends through hub elements 86 of the holding plate 84 and similar elements 87 of the closure cap 23.
The extended edge of the holding plate 84 is provided with spring actuated pins 88 and 89 that are resiliently held by springs 90 in caps 91 and 92, respectively, the pins being positioned to coact with lugs 93 and 94 extended from the sides of the casing 10 and having openings 95 and 96, respectively, therein to receive the inner ends of the pins 88 and 89. The edges of the holding plate 84 are provided with latched elements 97 and 98, as illustrated in Figure 13 and these elements snap over the elements 93 and 94.
The casing 10 is provided with intermediate sections 99 and 100, as illustrated in Figures 2 and 7 and the staple forming dies, such as the die 62 are positioned in I These sections recesses 101 in the intermediate sections. are removable to facilitate changing the dies and holding elements to compensate for cables of different diameters.
The sections 99 and are provided with recesses 102 and 103 in which springs 104 and [105 which urge the drivers 62 and 63 and 65 and 66 against the heads 62 and 67 also are positioned. The springs 104 and 105 urge the intermediate sections 99 and 100 away from the body of the casing 10 to facilitate removing the intermediate sections as desired.

Both of the magazines are the same and the same reference numerals are used for the different parts of each.
As illustrated in Figures 1 and 12 the magazine 24 is provided with 'a follower that is positioned on the inner end of a stem 111 and the stem is urged toward staples 112 with a spring 113. The magazine is mounted on the end of the intermediate sections 99 and 100 of the casing with screws 114 that are positioned in a flange 115 on the end of the magazine. The opposite end of the magazine is provided with a threaded collar 116 which forms a coupling retaining the outer section 117 in position in the extended end of the magazine. The section 117 is provided with an outwardly flared flange 118 that prevents the section moving outwardly through thecoupling collar 116. By this means the staples are resiliently held by the spring with the follower bearing against the staples on each side of the casing whereby with the staples secured in strips with lacquer, or the like, they are adapted to be inserted in the outer ends of the magazines 24 and 25 by removing the sections 117. The stem 111 is provided with I an annular recess 119 that is positioned to receive a latch 120 for retaining the stern in the section 117 as the staples are inserted in the magazine.
As illustrated in Figures 5 and 12 the clip or staple drivers 62, 63, 65 and 66 are positioned to travel in slots,
as indicated by the numeral 121, the slots being provided with enlarged sections 122 at the ends. The intermediate portionof the casing is provided with similar slots 123 to receive the cutting blade 17.
With the parts formed in this manner a cable, such as the cable 70 is extended through the dies with the machine open, as shown in Figure 7, and as the pumps are actuated with the lever 26 the plungers 14 and 15 drive staples, as
indicated by the numerals 124 and 125 around the cable and as the staples are clinched the cutting blade 17 is forced through the cable dividing the cable into sections with the ends seized by the clips or staples.
The dies may be provided in diiferent sizes to correspond with cables of different diameters and with the dies interchangeable the machine may readily be adjusted to cut and seize cables of difierent sizes.
It will be understood that modifications, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
1. In a cable cutting machine, the combination which comprises a casing having a cable receiving opening extended therethrough, a knife positioned to cut a cable extended through said opening, a centrally positioned plunger for operating the knife, plungers spaced from the centrally positioned plunger for driving clips around the cable in the cable opening, manually actuated pumps provided in the casing and positioned to pump fluid under pressure for operating the plungers, and means for relieving the pressure to release the plungers.
2. In a cable cutting machine, the combination which comprises a casing having a cable receiving opening extended therethrough, a knife positioned to cut a cable extended through said opening, a centrally positioned plunger for operating the knife, plungers spaced from the centrally positioned plunger for driving clips around the cable in the cable opening, manually actuated pumps provided in the casing and positioned to pump fluid under pressure for operating the plungers, means for relieving the pressure to release the plungers, and means for feeding clips into the casing.
3. In a cable cutting machine, the combination which comprises a casing having a plurality of cylinders and a reservoir therein and having a cable receiving opening extended through one end, dies in said cable receiving opening of the casing, a cutter in the casing and positioned to cut a cable in said dies, clip drivers also positioned in the casing, plungers slidably mounted in the cylinders of the casing and said cylinders positioned whereby plungers therein actuate the clip drivers and cutter, and manually actuated pumps in the casing positioned to pump fluid from the reservoir to the cylinders for actuating the clip drivers and cutter.
4. In a cable cutting machine, the combination which comprises a casing having a plurality of cylinders and a reservoir therein and having a cable receiving opening extended through one end, dies in said cable receiving opening of the casing, a cutter in the casing and positioned to cut a cable in said dies, clip drivers also positioned in the casing, plungers slidably mounted in the cylinders of the casing and said cylinders positioned whereby plungers therein actuate the clip drivers and cutter, manually actuated pumps in the casing positioned to pump fluid from the reservoir to the cylinders for actuating the clip drivers and cutter, and manually actuated means for releasing pressure of the cylinders.
5. In a cable cutting machine, the combination which comprises a casing having a plurality of cylinders and a reservoir therein and having a cable receiving opening extended through one end, dies in said cable receiving opening of the casing, a cutter in the casing and positioned to cut a cable in said dies, clip drivers also positioned in the casing, plungers slidably mounted in the cylinders of the casing and said cylinders positioned whereby plungers therein actuate the clip drivers and cut ter, manually actuated pumps in the casing positioned to pump fluid from the reservoir to the cylinders for actuating the clip drivers and cutter, manually actuated means for releasing pressure of the cylinder, said casing having bypass connections between the cylinder and valves in said bypass connections.
6. In a cable cutting and seizing machine, the combination which comprises a casing having a transversely disposed cable passage extended through one end With spaced parallel cylinders extended from one side of said passage and positioned perpendicularly to the axis of said cable passage, plungers slidably mounted in said cylinders, a cable cutting knife carried by one of said plungers and positioned to cut a cable in said cable passage, clip drivers carried by plungers positioned on opposite sides of said knife carrying plunger, a clip clinching die mounted in the casing and positioned on the side of the cable passage opposite to that from which the cylinders extend, said casing having a hinged section in which said clinching die is positioned, a holding plate hinged to the section in which the forming die is positoned and adapted to be secured to the casing for retaining the parts in assembled relaton, resilient means on the plungers for urging the plungers away from the cable passage through the casing and manually actuated hydraulic means for supplying fluid under pressure to said cylinders.
