Description

(No Model.)
J. GREEN.
ATTACHMENT FOR CUTTER HEADS.
No. 271,199. Patented Jan 23,1883.
UNITED, STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN GREEN, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ROBERT M. COLLINS, OF SAME PLACE.
ATTACHMENT FOR CUTTER-HEADS.
SPECIFICATION formi ng part of Letters Patent No. 271,199, dated January 23, 1883.
Application filed June 12, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom tt may concern Be it known that I, JOHN GREEN, of the city of St. Louis,in the State ofMissouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Knife Attach ments for Gutter-Heads, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a side view, Fig. 2 an end view, and Figs. 3 and 4 perspective views, of the knife or cutter clamps, Fig. 4 being inverted.
My improvement relates to the manner of securing to the head the knives or cutters of a molding-machine; and my improvement consists in providing each cutter with a clamp or clamps having bearing in grooves made in the head, as hereinafter set forth.
B represents the head, and B its turning shaft. Care the knives, and D strengtheningpieces. These are all of common construction, and thehead has the usualT-shaped grooves,A.
E E are the clamps, each consisting ofa rib, E, which fits in the largest part of the groove A, a web, E fitting the neck of the groove, shoulders E E which give strength to the web, and head or lip E for clamping the knife.
F are set-bolts, which pass down through the heels of the clamps, whose lower ends bear against washers F on the bottom of the grooves A.'
The shoulders E are formed so as not to bear upon the head, and the tops of the ribs E are oval in form, so that by tightening on the set-screws the clips or clamps will rock and take a firm hold of the cutter, and (liflerent thicknesses of cutters may be used. The ribs E are thrown forward by extensions E of the webs, so as to bring them nearly or quite beneath the lips E thus increasing the power of the clamps. In light work only one clamp would be absolutely necessary for each knife.
I claim 1. The cutter-clam p herein described, formed with a rib, E, web E shoulders E E and lip E, as set forth.
2. A cutter-clamp, E, formed with a rib. E, web E shoulders E E lip E and extension E, as set forth.
3. The cutter-clamp E, having rib E, web E shoulders E E and lip E the set-screw or bolt F, and washer F, in combination with a head, A, having T,-grooves A, as set forth.
JOHN GREEN.
