FINGERBRUSH WITH SPLASH GUARD Filed Nov. 23. 1953 I Fig./
Fig. 2
Lou/3; Angeli/Io IN V EN TOR.
States atent The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in toilet brushes for use particularly on the fingers and nails, and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character comprising novel means for preventing the clothes of the user, adjacent walls, fixtures, etc., from being splattered with soapy water.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a finger and nail brush of the aforementioned character comprising a splash guard or shield which may be readily removed from the brush proper.
Still another important object of the invention is to provide a finger and nail brush of the character described wherein, when the device is not in use, the bristles will be completely enclosed and protected.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a finger and nail brush of the character set forth which will be comparatively simple in construction, durable, attractive in appearance, compact and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention showing the brush and splash guard or shield separated.
Figure 2 is a view in vertical longitudinal section through the device.
Figure 3 is a View in transverse section, taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a brush which is designated generally by reference character 5. The brush 5 includes an elongated back 6 in the form of a substantially rectangular plate of substantial thickness, which plate may be of any suitable material. Formed integrally with the upper portion of the plate 6 is a flange 7. Also formed integrally with the plate 6 is a split handle 8 for the re- 2,707,300 Patented! May 3, 1955 ception of the fingers. Bristles 9 are embedded in the bottom of the plate 6.
Removably mounted on the brush 5 is a substantially rectangular, box-like splash guard or shield 10 of suitable material which is open at its top and bottom. The upper portion of the splash guard or shield 10 is internally rabbeted, as at 11, for the reception of the plate 6. As shown to advantage in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawing, the flange 7 of the brush 5 is adapted to rest or seat on top of the splash guard or shield 10.
It is thought that the manner in which the device is used will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. The brush 5, with the guard 10 mounted thereon, is held through the medium of the handle 8 in one hand while the fingers of the other hand are inserted in said guard through the openv bottom thereof and engaged with the bristles 9. Thus, the end portions of the fingers being cleaned are completely surrounded and any soapy water, etc., which may be thrown by the bristles 9 will be arrested by the guard 10. The brush 5. being removable from the guard 10 may be readily replaced when desired as, for instance, when the bristles 9 become Worn. When the device is not in use, the guard 10 encloses, conceals and protects the bristles 9 from dust, etc.
It is believed that the many advantages of a finger and nail brush constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
A finger brush comprising an horizontal back including a substannally rectangular plate having a handle on its upper side, said plate having a plurality of bristles depending from its lower side, and a detachable substantially rectangular anti-spatter guard interfitted with and removably mounted on said back, said guard extending downwardly beyond the ends of said bristles and being open at its top for the reception of said plate and open at its bottom for the reception of the fingers to be cleaned, said plate being of substantial thickness and including a horizontal upper marginal flange engageable with the top of said guard.
