United States Patent GUN CASES Edward Kaplan, Yonkers, N. Y. Application May 17, 1954, Serial No. 430,052 2 Claims. (Cl. 15052) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in gun cases.

One of the objects of the present invention is to provide an improved gun case which will protect the muzzleend of a long barreled gun and prevent the sight of the gun from tearing the inside of the gun case.

Prior to this invention, the protective end of the gun case was so constructed that the muzzle-end of the gun had to be thrust into the protective end of the gun case before the gun could be completely enclosed within the gun case. This method of placing the gun with n the case was made necessary by the fact that the zipper closure usually ended at the protective cup which made it difficult to open the gun case along its entire length. When the muzzle of the gun was thrust into the gun case, the sharp forward sight would often scratch and tear the lining of the gun case.

A further object of this invention is to provide a flexible muzzle-end cup which will enable the owner of a gun to lower it directly into the gun case and then to bend the protective cup over the muzzle-end of the gun without moving the gun within the gun case.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a gun case wherein the zipper used for the opening and closing of the gun case goes beyond the protective cup so that the gun case can be opened completely in a flat position.

Another object of this invention is to provide a protective tongue to act as the base of the protective cup.

To add to the rigidity of the muzzle-end of the gun case, an external loop is stitched through the muzzle-end of the gun case to the protective tongue within the gun case. This external loop also serves as a means of hanging the gun case from a hook or other support.

Other objects and advantages will appear from the following description considered in connection with the accompanying drawings in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevation view of the muzzle-end of the gun case with the gun case and the protective cup in the open position,

Figure 2 is the-same view as Figure 1 with the protective cup in the closed position,

Figure 3 is an end elevation view of the protective cup in the closed position with its associated tongue,

Figure 4 is a side elevation view of the muzzle-end of the gun case in the completely closed position.

Since the invention is incorporated in the muzzle-end of the gun case, the remainder of the gun case will not be described herein.

In the drawings, the number 1 indicates the muzzle-end of the gun case. A zipper 2 used for opening and closing the gun case by means of zipper tab 3 extends completely around the gun case 1.

A hanging loop 4 is attached to the gun case 1 by means of a strip 5 which is part of the hanging loop 4.

An important feature of this invention lies in the fabrication of the external loop strip 5 and the internal protective tongue 6 of the protective cup 7. This is accomplished by using a single row of stitches 8 which secures the external loop strip 5 and the internal protective tongue 6 to the muzzle-end of the gun case in the correct position with one easy and rapid operation.

The device is operated as follows:

When a gun is to be secured within the gun case 1, the zipper tab 3 is pulled to the extreme muzzle-end of the gun case 1 which opens the zipper 2 so that the gun case 1 can be spread out flat in the open position. This opening movement of the gun case 1 places the protective cup 7 with its

open ends

9 and 10 facing up and toward the gun case 1 respectively as shown in Figure 1. The gun is then lowered into the gun case 1 with the muzzle of the gun nestling within the

open ends

9 and 10 of the protective cup 7. The flexible protective cup 7 is now bent over the tongue 6 as shown in Figures 2 and 3, and thus the cup 7 together with the tongue 6 enclose the muzzle-end of the gun within their protective walls. Now the zipper tab 3 is pulled to close the zipper 2 completely around the gun case 1. The closed zipper 2 holds the protective cup 7 down in the closed position until the gun case 1 is opened again to remove the gun.

While, in disclosing the principles of my invention and its preferred embodiment, I have described various detailed structure and relationship, it will be understood that such embodiment and details are given by way of example only and not as limiting the scope of my inventron.

I claim:

1. A gun case having a zippered closure extending the full length of said gun case, said gun case having a muzzle-end adapted to open in a flat position, a flexible cup mounted at the muzzle-end of said gun case, a reinforcing tongue extending from said flexible cup, a loop strap situated on the outer surface of the muzzle-end of said gun case and means for attaching said loop strap and said reinforcing tongue to said gun case.

2. A gun case as set forth in claim 1 in which said loop strap and said reinforcing tongue are stitched together and to the wall of the gun case by the same row of stitches.
