2 Claims. (Cl. 2-68) This invention relates to a combination cap and goggles. This invention relates to a novel combination cap and goggles to keep water out of the eyes and from the face of a swimmer wearing such combination. The goggles and cap are united by vulcanizing or securing them together or by manufacturing them together in one piece thus to provide a leak proof connection between them.

It is a principal object of this invention to provide a combination cap and goggles of the kind to be more particularly described hereinafter with the cap having ridges or protuberances extending outwardly spaced above the goggles and eyes of the wearer and an extended neck covering portion engaging about the neck of the swimmer to avoid chafing of the swimmers neck while providing a firm and secure engagement of the cap with the neck of the person wearing the cap and preventing any flow or seeping of water into the cap and goggles.

A further object of this invention is to provide a combination swimming cap and goggles of the type to be described hereinafter defined having pull tabs adjacent to the temples of the wearer of such combination within easy reach of the fingers of the swimmer either in or out of the water whereby to relieve pressure on the goggles securing strap on his forehead.

Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter described and the novel features thereof defined in the appended claims.

It is to be noted that when swimming under water it has been the custom of the swimmer to employ the use of a cap and a separate pair of goggles both fastened on the head of a swimmer so that the swimmer may observe things underneath the surface of the water. It is noted, as above, that the unitary swimming cap and goggles is the essence of this invention. The swimming cap and goggles being formed integral without the necessity of separately fastening the cap and then the goggles onto the head of the swimmer.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings the numeral 10 designates generally a cap and goggles combination constructed according to an embodiment of my invention which combination may be used in place of a separate cap and separate goggles.

The combination 10 comprises a cap 11 having goggles 12 formed thereon, or attached securely thereto so that by placing the cap 11 on the head of the swimmer the goggles 12 are also placed on his head.

The goggles 12 have a goggle frame 14 which is more or less plastic in structure although the structure of the goggle frame 14 may be rubberized to correspond with the plastic or rubber cap 12. By forming the goggles l2 and cap 11 of the same material as rubber or rubberized material, the cap 11 and goggles 12 may be vulcanized or otherwise secured together for the unitary function of the use of both the cap and the goggles.

The goggle frame 14 is provided with a pair of laterally spaced apart apertures 15 within each of which there is provided a lens 16 through which articles below the surface of the water may be properly viewed by the swimmer. If the cap 11 and goggles 12 are formed of the same type of material both may be manufactured at the same time by special manufacturing means for the cap and goggles combination 10.

In the structure of the combination 10 including the cap 11 and goggles 12 the cap 11 is formed with a crown covering portion 17 adapted to cover the crown of the head of a swimmer, a forehead covering portion 18 depending from the forward edge of the crown covering portion 17 as clearly noted in Fig. 1 of the drawings and a neck covering portion 19.

By the vulcanization of the goggles to the cap and the portions of the cap together there is provided a vulcanization line 21 which may appear in the drawings as a sort of welding line.

There is also formed integral with the cap 11 protuberances 22 which extend forwardly and outwardly from the cap 11 spaced upwardly from the forehead covering portion 18 which is clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings. While the protuberances 22 may be arranged as a series of separate protuberances on the cap 11 it is to be understood that a single ridge may also be provided by moving the protuberances together in the form of a single linear protuberance extending across the forward end of the cap 11 above the forehead covering portion 18 thereof. The protuberances 22 constitute a means for pulling the cap away from the forehead of the wearer to temporarily relieve pressure and permits circulation of the blood at the forehead. The continuous protuberances at the forehead covering portion also serve to prevent the dripping of .water over said lenses when the swimmer is above the surface of the water.

Snap fasteners 24 are used to hold a goggles strap 25 on the cap 11 with the goggles strap extending substantially around the head of the wearer and the outside of the cap 11. Snap fastener elements 26 are formed on the cap adjacent to the goggles 12 and co-related snap fastener elements 27 are secured onto the outer edges of the strap 25 for fastening the strap 25 to the cap 11. A similar snap fastener 24 may be provided intermediate the length of the strap 25 for engaging with a snap fastener element on the rear side of the cap 11 such latter snap fastener being provided to secure the goggles strap 25 and goggles 12 to the cap 11. Ordinarily as the goggles 12 are united with the forehead covering portion 18 such intermediate snap fastener will not be required to secure the goggles 12 to the cap 11.

There is also provided a chin strap 28 releasably secured by fasteners 29 to the lower end of the depending ear covering portions or flaps 31 formed integral with the cap 11. The ends of the goggle straps 30 are provided with detachable fastener elements for connection with cooperating fastener elements on the cap adjacent to the sides of the goggle lens frame.

While the specific details of one embodiment of this invention have been herein shown and described, the invention is not confined thereto as changes and alterations may be made without departing from the spirit and scope thereof as defined in the appended claims.

I claim:

1.
