Description

March 29, 1955 H. n. BIMSON FENCE CONSTRUCTION Filed Sept. 18, 1953 INVENTOR I i121?? Dizyley fiz'msem ATTORNEY United States Patent 2,705,130 FENCE CONSTRUCTION Harry Dingley Bimson, Richmond, Va. Application September 18, 1953, Serial No. 380,920 1 Claim. (Cl. 256-48) This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a fence post and more particularly to such posts of the type that are completely produced by the rolling mill process, except for cutting into lengths.
One of the objects of this invention is the provision of a post to which wire fencing fabric may be easily secured to the posts.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a post having a plurality of ribs or studs in spaced relation upon the surface thereof and adapted to hold a wire flush against the surface of said post.
A further object is to provide a means for fastening said wire fabric to the post and rib.
Other features and objects will more fully appear from the following description, and accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a foreshortened fragmentary perspective view of my improved fence construction,
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of my fence post,
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the manner and means for securing the fence fabric to the novelfence post.
Referring to the drawings, a post 1 has a body formed in a T-shaped fashion in a front or head 2 and a simple and practical are integral with and disposed transversely in spaced relation over the head 2. These studs project from the head and are adapted to support wires 5 as clearly disclosed in The wires 5 are respectively secured substantially flush with said transverse ribs 4 and against the surface of head 2 and upon studs or ribs 4 by securers of wire 6 bendable about said post and studs or ribs and being securely fastened together by twisting their ends together as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3.
It is to be observed that the securers, wire loops 6,
pass at an acute angle over both a fence wire 7 and a rib 4. Each rib 4 is of such length that one end thereof is in the path of an adjacent wire 7 and also a loop wire 6. This relation of rib 4 and loop 6 prevents undue lifting or displacement upwardly of the fence fabric 5, 5, 7, 7.
he one end portion of each rib 4 is in the path of the loop 6 and serves a utilitarian function, in that, it prevents undue upward displacement of the fence fabric.
movement of the fence fabric post 1, the securers or loops 6 plus a particular and new relation between the post 1 and the fence fabric secured thereto.
The loop 6 does not need to be made of heavy wire, but on the contrary can be made of light wire, since the ends are fastened together. One side of the loop passes closely beneath the rib 4 and the other side passes closely over the top of the rib 4 so that it can perform its contemplated function.
It is to be noted that the surface of post 1 is smooth flange or leg protruding therefrom thus provrding a snug fitting between the wire 5, head 2 and securer 6. Fabricated wires 7 are secured in similar manner as wires 5. The posts 1 are securely disposed in the ground or base 8.
Having described this invention,
