GIRDLE Filed Feb. 17, 1953 INVENTORS e s WALTER M55@ EMIL United States Patent O GIRDLE Emil Geiger and Walter Maag, Zurich, Switzerland, assignors to Egli & Co., Corsetfabrik A. G. Bruttisellen- Wangen, Bruttisellen, Switzerland Application February 17, 1953, Serial No. 337,396
1 Claim. (Cl. 2-37) This invention relates to a garment and more particularly it relates to a garment formed as a girdle or the like.
The main object of this invention is to provide a girdle or the like which does not slide upwards on the body of the wearer, even if the latter bows down or stretches itself, but always correctly fits on the body.
For this purpose according to the present invention the girdle is provided in its lower backward portion with an elastic supporting tape, arranged to engage beneath the buttocks or glutean muscles preventing in coaction therewith the garment from sliding upwards on the body of the wearer.
Further advantages of the invention will appear in the following description in which a preferred embodiment of the invention is described more fully with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front view of a girdle,
Fig. 2 is a horizontal cross section along the line II-II of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is at reduced scale, a back view of the girdle when in use.
The illustrated girdle comprises a front middle section 1 flanked by two side sections 2 and 3, a rear middle section 4, and in the zone of said section 1 two lower gussets 5. All these sections 1 to 5 are connected tegether by seams. The sections 2 to 5 may for instance consist of tulle fabric, made Without rubber, or may be formed as so called simplex or duplex elastic fabric, i. e. with the elastic threads running in one or both directions. The front middle section 1 may for reasons cf esthetics be made for example of satin, the inner side of which being then covered by a lining. In order to make the drawings easy to understand there is only a one-layer middle section 1 shown in Fig. 2. The upper edge of the girdle is formed by a woven, sewed-on waist band 6, which overlaps the upper edge of the girdle sections 1 to 4 as well on the outside as on the inside, extending over the entire periphery of the girdle and being circumferentially elastic. A sewed-on and also circumferentially elastic beaded tape 7 is further provided at the lower edge of the girdle and folded to form a doublelayer strip, one layer thereof being placed at the outer side and the other layer at `the inside of the girdle sections 2, 3, 4 and 5; the bordering tape 7 is sewed at its ends to the front middle section 1 beyond which it does not extend. According to Fig. 1 four garters 8 (not shown in Fig. 3) are attached to the bordering tape 7 or to the lower edge of the girdle, respectively.
The girdle is provided interiorly at its lower backward portion with a supporting tape formed by a woven, comparatively broad elastic tape 9. This elastic tape 9 is fastened at its ends to the connecting seams joining the front middle section 1 of the girdle with the two lateral Mice sections 2 and 3; intermediate its ends the elastic tape 9 is fixed to the seams connecting the rear middle section 4 with the two side sections 2 and 3. The elastic tape 9 is arranged to extend with a slant across the girdle in such a way, that its middle portion 9a located in the Zone of the rear middle section 4 lies next to the lower edge of the girdle, while the two ends of the elastic tape 9 have the greatest distance from said lower girdle edge. The elastic tape 9 is of shorter circumferential length than the corresponding portion of the girdle along which it extends, the shortening of the length of the tape being situated in the zone of the rear middle section 4 of the girdle, i. e. between the connecting seams of the rear middle` section 4 with the two side sections 2 and 3.
In a girdle which is suitably made to measure in the described manner, the elastic tape 9 occupies such a position, that when the girdle is worn, the tape engages beneath the buttocks or glutean muscles of the wearer of the girdle so that the latter is tightly held on the body and cannot slide upward, even when the body is forwardly inclined or bent in any other manner. The easily exchangeable elastic tape 9 may be fastened intermediate its ends also in any other manner to the girdle, instead or by cross stitches at two places, or any fastening of the elastic tape 9 intermediate its ends may be omitted altogether.
The waist band 6 forming the upper edge of the girdle may be formed so that some warp threads are omitted in or near the bent portion of the band situated between its exterior and interior layer forming a weaker zone extending circumferentially of the band 6, thereby permitting the band to readily bend inwardly in order to counteract the potential rolling tendency of the band. According to a modification the band 6 is fixed to the inside of the girdle sections 1 to 4 by means of a simple marginal layer only.
It is evident that for instance also a corselct or the like, or any other foundation garment may be similarly formed as described.
We claim:
A girdle having a front middle section, two lateral sections and a rear middle section connected together by means of seams, an elastic supporting tape extending interiorly lalong the lower rear portion of said rear middle section and along said two lateral sections; said tape having its ends connected to the seams connecting said lateral sections with the front middle sections and further having its intermediate portions connected with the seams connecting said two lateral sections with the rear middle section in such a manner as to form a loop adapted to pass beneath the buttocks or glutean muscles of the wearer in order to prevent the girdle from sliding upwardly on the body; the ends of said tape being connected to the girdle at a higher elevation than the connections with the intermediate portion, so that the end portions of the tape extend obliquely upward from the intermediate portions.
