UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I
AND THOMAS J. MOORE, OF SAME PLACE.
LATHE-STAND.
SPECIFICATION forming -pa.rt of Letters Patent No. 270,166, dated January 2, 1883.
Application filed July 28, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMOND A. WARREN, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lathe-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
An important object of my invention is to provide a convenient place in the stand of a lathe for holding tools, gear-wheels, and other articles which are used in connection with the lathe-s, andto protect them from chips, oil, and dirt falling from the lathe.
The nature of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and
r5 hereinafter fully set forth.
The accompanying drawing represents a transverse vertical section of a lathe-stand embodying my invention.
A designates the lathe bed or shears, and
B designates the stand thereof, which usually consists of end legs on which the bed A is supported.
Odesignates a shelf, here shown as arranged horizontally in the stand and adapted to re- 2 5 ceive tools, gear-wheels, or any other articles commonly used about a lathe;
D designates an inclined plate or board, sloping downward and backward from the under side of the lathe-bed A at the front to the back 306 26 ofthe shelf 0, and all chips, dirt, and oil fallingfromthelathewill bedirected tothebnok of the lathe and deposited on the floor or in the box or receptacle E. The plate or board D forms a guard to prevent the chips, dirt, &c.
from falling onto the shelf 0, and enables the 5 latter to be kept clean. Upon the under side or front of the guard D there is formed or attached a pocket or holder, D, which may be subdivided into compartments, if desired, and which is adapted to receive lathe-tools, the interchangeable gear-Wheels used in a lathe,
or any other articles desired.
I may use the guard D with its pocket or holder D, either with or withoutthe shelf 0, and where the shelf 0 is employed the guard 5 D may or may not be provided with pockets.
By my invention I provide for conveniently disposing of all small articles used about a lathe out of the reach of chips and dirt, and
the latter are deposited atthe back of the lathe, where they are out of the way of the workman.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a lathe-stand, the shelf and the guard inclined downward and rearward from the front of the lathe over said shelf, all arranged substantially as herein described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. Ina lathe-stand,the guard inclined downward and rearward from the front of the lathe, and provided on it under side with pockets or holders, substantially as herein described and for the purpose set fort-h.
