THOMAS MOFFE'I', 0F CHICAGO, ILTJINOIS.
RAILROAD TIME-INDICATOR.
Specficaton of Letters Patent No. 27,006, dated January 31, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THoMAs Morrn'r, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Combining Railroad Time-Tables with Clock-Dials; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in placing around the dial-of a clock a requisite number of rings between which the names of the different stations are arranged, whereby engine-drivers, conductors or others having charge of trains can see at a glance the relative position of the time and the approaching station.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
By referring to the accompanying drawings, of which Figure l is a front View, Fig. 2 a cross section, Fig. 3 a perspective View of the band and Fig. 4 a perspective view of tablet, it will be seen that around an ordinary clock dial and a little below its plane I place a plate of metal marked A A A. On this plate at equal distances apart are fastened three or more rings B B B, having a small return or top, which with the plate they are attached to forms a groove, wherein are set movable tablets of metal or other substance C, having the different station names, engraved, printed, stamped or embossed thereon. In each of the rings I arrange the station names of two trains which do'notrun over the road in any of the sane hours; and when said names are placed opposite the appointed time for the train to arrive at each they are retained in that position by the bands D D I) passing under the tablets and pressing their ends against the outside of the rings, when drawn tight by the screws E E E.
Attached to the hour hand of the clock, and passing underneath it, is an index F, whose point G sliding in the double eye or buckle can be lengthened or shortened at pleasure to show at once the time and stations of any of the six different trains designated b v the fignres 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, placed before the station names.
That I claim as my invention and wish to secure by Letters Patent is l. The plate having the rings B B B, or their equivalents attached thereto as, and for the purpose specified in combination with the movable tablets.
2. I also claim the arrangement of the rings whereby each ring is suitable for two trains as specified.
THOS. MOFFET. IVitnesses:
