This invention relates generally to improvements in sanitary conveniences for Women and is directed particularly to improvements in catamenial bandages.
A particular object of the present invention is to provide an improved sanitary catarnenial bandage and supporting belt wherein the bandage is constructed in a novel manner and is adapted to be coupled with a supporting strap and waist belt in such a manner that the bandage can be changed easily and quickly.
A further and more specic object of the in vention is to provide a catamenial bandage in the form of a tubular casing of absorbent material, open at its ends to facilitate the introduction of an absorbent body therein, with a novel supporting strap and means of connecting the same with the tubular body whereby such body can be suspended from a waist belt, in a convenient and comfortable manner.
Other objects and advantages oi the invention will become apparent as the description of the saine proceeds and the invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of the speciiication, with the understanding, however, that the invention is not to be limited to the exact details of construction shown and described since obvious modifications will occur to a per son skilled in the art.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a waist belt and bandage constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a View in side elevation, on an enlarged scale, of the bandage of the present invention, showing the supporting strap therefor, parts of the bandage being broken away.
Figure 3 is a transverse section taken substantially on the line 3 3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a detail section taken substantially on the line -I of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a detail perspective showing the manner in which an end of the bandage receptacle can be opened.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing the numeral le generally designates a waist belt of suitable character, the construction here illustrated and preferred, comprising the front and rear portions I2 and I4 respectively, which are connected by the elastics I 5 which position over the hips or at the sides of the wearers body.
The front portion has attached thereto a depending tab I8 while the rear portion has a Cil (Cl. 12S- 289) 2 corresponding tab 2U, each oi the tabs being provided with the button portion I9 of a two part snap fastener, as shown.
The numeral '22 generally designates the bandage of the present invention which is suspended, in the manner hereinafter stated, between the tabs I8 and 20.
The bandage 22 comprises an elongated arcuate sleeve 24 which may be formed in any suitable manner. This sleeve is, of course, tubular and when suspended in position for use it takes a flattened form which is roughly elliptical in cross section as shown in Figure 3, the two sides of the sleeve being designated 25.
The sleeve 2li when in the form illustrated has the concave top part 2B and the convex bottom part 21 and to the inner surfaces of the sides 25 and to the bottom part 21 are secured a number of layers of absorbent material 28, such as gauze or the like. The sleeve 25 is also of absorbent material as will be readily appreciated whereby the uids to be absorbed can pass through to the inside layers 28.
Each end of the sleeve 2li is formed to provide a mouth or opening 29 by having the sleeve divided lengthwise through a portion of its length, thereby providing the two separable aps 3U which are adapted to be joined or secured together by a snap fastener 3l.
In addition to the layers 28 the sleeve is provided with a suitable absorbent ller 32 which is readily removable.
The numeral 33 designates a suspension strap which is preferably in the form of a tube of suitable plastic material, eaoh end of which suspension strap carries a snap fastener element 34 adapted for connection with the element I9 of a tab I8 or 20. In the present illustration of the structure the element 34 is shown as the cap which receives the button 22 but it will be readily apparent that these parts may be reversed.
In the use of the device the suspension strap 33 is run through the sleeve and after the flaps 30' are closed and secured together the strap 33 lies over the snaps and is disposed along the underside of the top part 26 of the sleeve. Thus when the ends of the strap 33 are attached to the tabs I8 and 2U, the bandage as a whole will be suspended in position and it will be readily seen that the bandage can be shifted on the suspension strap so as to place it in proper comfortable position for use.
From the foregoing it will be readily apparent that there is provided by the present invention an improved bandage of the type stated which 3 can be inexpensively manufactured and which, because of its construction and manner of suspension, can be easily and quickly changed as necessary.
I claim:
l. A bandage of the character stated comprising an elongate longitudinally arcuate flat sided sleeve of absorbent material, said sleeve having an opening at each end dened by two flaps, an absorbent material within the sleeve, 'the longitudinal top of the sleeve being concave, fastening elements for securing together adjacent aps, and a suspension means comprising an elongate strap extending longitudinally through the sleeve along said top and extending at its ends through the end openings of the sleeve and carrying on each extended end a means for attaching the same to a waist band.
2. A catamenial bandage comprising, in combination with a Waist belt, an elongate fabric sleeve body of longitudinally arcuate form and adapted to receive an absorbent material, said body having separable side portions at its ends providing end openings, separable fastening means carried by said side portions for joining such portions to close the openings, a suspension means comprising a strand of non-absorbent material extending lengthwise through the body along the inner side of the concave portion thereof, said strand extending out through each open end of the sleeve across and over the top of the fastening means, and means for detachably coupling each end of said strand with the waistbelt.
