PLASTIC WATCH BRACELET Filed Oct. 24, 1951 INVENTOR flrzizur fi. Kammer ATTU RN EYE Patented Oct. 19, 1954 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PLASTIC WATCH BRACELET Arthur B. Kammer, Sewickley, Pa. Application October 24, 1951, Serial No. 252,910
2 Claims.
*1 This invention relates to wrist watch bands, bracelets and supports, and in particular a plastic band or bracelet having a watch receiving pocket in the inner surface with a continuous v transparent covering over the watch and with spring ends extended from the pocket for retaining the device in position upon a wrist.
The purpose of this invention is to provide a substantially permanent wrist watch supporting bracelet and a bracelet in which the wrist watch is substantially encased in a pocket and consequently protected.
In the conventional type of wrist watch bands where it is necessary to open and close a latch or secure the ends together with a buckle the latching elements eventually wear and the life of the average wrist band or bracelet is comparatively short. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a wrist watch carrying bracelet that is preformed to fit around the wrist and that is provided with a pocket in the under surface for holding the watch wherein the outer surface of the watch is completely covered and consequently protected.
The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide means for forming a wrist watch bracelet or band in which the watch is covered.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved wrist watch band or bracelet that is secured in position without fastening elements.
A further object of the invention is to provide a plastic bracelet which is of a simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies a split arm band having a bulging section with a recess adapted to hold a wrist watch in the under surface of the bulging section and with means for adjustably mounting a wrist watch in the bracelet with the watch positioned in said recess.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the bracelet showing a wrist watch, in dotted lines positioned in a pocket therein.
Figure 2 is an end elevational view of the improved plastic wrist watch bracelet.
Figure 3 is a detail view looking upwardly into the watch carrying pocket of the bracelet and showing a watch therein.
Figure 4 is a longitudinal section through the wrist watch part of the bracelet taken on line 4-4 of Figure 1, showing the watch in full lines in the pocket and in dotted lines in an outwardly extended position for winding and setting and also showing the ends of the bracelet broken away.
Figure 5 is a cross section through the bracelet taken on line 55 of Figure 1 also showing the watch in the pocket.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts 2 the plastic wrist watch bracelet of this invention includes a plastic band having extended ends l0 and H with a bulging section [2 having a pocket I 3 in the under surface positioned at an intermediate point therein.
With the parts as shown in the drawing a Wrist watch, as indicated by the numeral H1 is provided with a loop or bail [5 that is positioned to snap over the inner edge of a lug I6 whereby with the ends of the loops extended through bulging sections l1 and it at one end of the pocket l3 the watch is pivotally mounted in the recess and the opposite end may be secured in position by a similar loop or bail I9 that is frictionally held in the end 20 of the pocket and from which the end i I of the bracelet extends.
The ends in and l I of the bracelet have sufficient resiliency to permit the ends being forced open to the position shown in Figure 2 to facilitate placing the bracelet upon a wrist and after being positioned on the wrist the ends are released whereby the bracelet fits snugly on the wrist.
It will be understood that the pocket l3 of the bracelet may be formed of different designs to accommodate different kinds of wrist watches and it will also be understood that the wrist watch may be secured in the pocket by other suitable means.
It will be understood that other modifications may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
1. A wrist watch carrying band shaped to extend substantially around a wrist and having an opening in one side to facilitate placing the band over a wrist, said band having a watch re ceiving pocket in the under surface, a loop integral with the band extending into the watch receiving pocket at one end thereof, and means extending through said loop and connected to a watch for temporarily retaining a watch in said pocket.
2. A wrist watch bracelet comprising a split band having a bulging section therein and having a watch receiving pocket in the under surface of said bulging section, said bulging section having a transparent outer face, and a loop extended into the said bulging section for retaining an attaching lug therein.
