The present invention relates to a coin-operated toy bank and it consists in the combina tions, constructions and arrangements of parts herein described and claimed.

Generally there is provided a coin-operated toy bank which consists of a cylindrical container having a closed bottom and a removable top. Centrally suspended beneath the top is a rockable platform one end of which has mounted thereon a coin-receiving pocket which lies immediately below a coin-slot formed in the cover. An arcuate guide band is afiixed to the underside of the platform and, to that end of the platform opposite to that upon which the pocket is mounted there is affixed one end of a flexible strap, the other end of such strap being connected to the lower end of a vertically disposed elongated display board which extends slidably through a slot provided therefor in the top. The device is such that when a coin is inserted through the coinreceiving slot in the cover it will fall by gravity into the pocket to thereby tilt the platform whereupon the strap will act to raise the display board upwardly through the cover. Various indicia or an image such as a face or the like may be displayed on the board. The pocket is open at one side thereof so that by tilting the cylinder a coin will fall by gravity therefrom to the bottom of the container allowing the platform to reassume its original horizontal position and thus allowing the display board to return to a position fully within the cover. A novel stop is provided for preventing the platform from going beyond a horizontal position when the coin is allowed to drop from the pocket.

It is accordingly an object of the invention to provide a novel coin-operated toy bank.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character set forth which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and yet effective and efiicient in use.

Another object of the invention is to provide, in a device of the character set forth, a novel display board forming a part of the invention.

A further object of the invention is to provide, in a device of the character set forth, a novel rockable platform forming a part of the invention.

A further object of the invention is to provide, in a device of the character set forth, a novel coin-receiving pocket forming a part of the invention.

Other and further objects of the invention will become apparent from a reading of the following specification taken in conjunction with the drawing, in which:

Referring more particularly to the drawing, there is shown therein a cylindrical container It provided with a cap or top I l. Centrally affixed to the underside of the top I! is a pair of spaced vertically dependent arms [2 through the lower end portions of which extends an axle [3 which axle also extends centrally and transversely through a rockable platform M.

A coin-receiving pocket It is mounted atop one end portion of the platform 14 and is provided with a vertical opening It in one side thereof.

Formed as a continuation of the wall of the pocket i5 is an upwardly and inwardly extending coin guide I'l which terminates in an apex portion l8 adapted to abut against a cross arm l9 centrally affixed to the underside of the cap or cover II. The apex portion I5 continues downwardly and outwardly to form a brace arm 2!! which is amxed atop the platform M upon its side thereof opposed to that upon which the pocket I5 is mounted. This is accomplished by means of a tack 2[ or the like. The outer wall of the pocket i5 is continued upwardly and inwardly to likewise form a coin guide 22 which lies in spaced relation to the guide member I! above which is provided a coin-receiving slot 23 in the cover II.

An arcuate guide band 24 is dependently affixed to the end portions of the platform M and one end of a flexible strap 25 is connected to the platform It by means of the tack 2! while the other end thereof extends beneath the lower end of a vertically disposed display board 26 and is afiixed by glue or the like to the outer side thereof, as indicated at 21. The board 26 extends slidably through a display slot 28 formed in the cover 10. A guide column 29 for the board 25 is affixed to the underside of the cover about the slot 28 and various indicia or an image 29 may be displayed upon the board 26.

In operation, it will be apparent that when a coin such as is indicated in dotted lines at 30, is dropped through the coin-receiving slot 23, it will come first into contact with the curved upper surface of the guide member I! whereupon it will be allowed to drop by gravity into 3 the pocket I 5, the guide member 22 insuring this action. The weight of the coin will then act to tilt the platform hi to the dotted line position shown, for example, in Figure 2. This action will cause the end of the platform M opposite to that upon which the pocket 15 is mounted to rise thus lifting the strap 25 and consequently raising the display board 26 to thereby display the indicia or figure 29 displayed thereon. It will be apparent that coins of different weights will act to tilt the platform 14 to a greater or lesser degree thus causing a display of more or less of the board 26 and in this manner adding to the amusement of the person utilizing the bank. When the above action has taken place, in order to reset the device, it is only necessary to tilt the container H1 in such manner that the coin 38 will drop from the pocket 15 through the opening it provided in one side thereof. This will allow the platform it to reassume its normal horizontal position as shown, for example, in full lines in Figure 2. The apex portion it forms a stop in conjunction with the member 59 against which it will abut when the platform is thus returned to its normal position thus preventing the platform from going beyond such horizontal position.

While out one form of the invention has been shown and described herein, it will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art that many minor modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.

While specific description has been made as to the container having a removable cover, it shall be understood that this cover can be soldered or welded to the container and access can be to the container through a sliding door 32 in the bottom of the container. Access to this sliding door can be had only after a label has been removed from the surface of the container. The knowledge of this door is conveyed to the purchaser at the time it is sold and as long as the label is in place, it will be unknown to others. The label is not shown, but it will be understood that it can be applied over the door.

What is claimed is:

l. A device of the character described comprising a container, a cover removably mounted on said container, a normally horizontally disposed rockable platform carried on the underside of said cover, a coin-receiving pocket mounted atop one end portion of said platform, said cover having a coin-receiving slot above said pocket, a vertically disposed display board slidably disposed through said cover, a flexible strap interconnecting the lower end of said board and that end of the platform opposite to that upon which the pocket is mounted, and an arcuate guide band dependently aflixed to the underside of said platform and engageable with said strap when said platform is tilted.

2. A device as defined in claim 1 wherein a cross bar is affixed to the underside of said cover and wherein a movement limiting detent is carried atop said platform and adapted to abut said cross bar when said platform is tilted whereby to limit such tilting movement.

3. A device as defined in claim 1 wherein said pocket is provided with an open side whereby a coin placed in said pocket may be dropped therefrom into said container by tilting the latter in the direction of said open side.

4. A device as defined in claim 1 wherein said display board is provided with an image thereon.

5. A device of the character described comprising a container, a cover removably mounted on said container, a normally horizontally disposed rookable platform carried on the underside of said cover, a coin-receiving pocket mounted atop one end portion of said platform, said cover having a coin-receiving slot above said pocket, a vertically disposed display board slidabiy disposed through said cover, a flexible strap interconnecting the lower end of said board and that end of the platform opposite to that upon which the pocket is mounted, an arouate guide band dependently affixed to the underside of said platform and engageable with said strap when said platform is tilted, and means for guiding a coin from said coin-receiving slot to said pocket.
