The present invention relates to circulationaccelerators for central beatings and especially to beatings with hot-water pipes. It has for its chief object the provision of a device which will greatly accelerate the water circulation and which will considerably increase the heat-production of the boiler at a very low cost.
Another object of the invention is to provide an accelerator which will work without any lubrication smoothly, without any noise, and without any noteworthy wear.
The device according to the invention consists in the particular construction or arrangement of a pump directly connected to an electro-motor and is placed at the inlet or outlet of the boiler, where it accelerates the circulation of the water, which usually takes place by means of thermal siphonage.
The accelerator being directly coupled with the motor, having no stuffing-box and being constantly lubricated by a water-film, works without any noteworthy wear and without any noise. In case of the stoppage of the motor, the pump will present an insignificant resistance to the passage of the water, in spite of its excellent operating eiliciency during normal working.
The accompanying drawing shows by way of example a constructional embodiment of the invention. In the drawing:

The accelerator shown in Figure 1 comprises a pump I, connected by means of a flange 2 to an electro-motor, comprising a stator 3 and a rotor 4 which are separated from each other by a jacket 5 made of metal or plastics.
A shaft 6 which is provided with a longitudinal drain '5 and which is centered with some clearance between the bearings 8 and 9 of the flange 2 and the snout Ill, couples the rotor 3 with the propeller or paddle-wheel ll of the pump l.
Between the flange 2 and the rotor 4 is provided a stop [2, one part of which consists of mobile jaws made of special bronze and the other part, adapted to the rotor, be made of stainless metal.
The snout It comprises holes l3 which allow the passage of a part of the water displaced by the pump I, through the ducts IA of the flange 2, and through the bearings 8 and 9 The drain 1 of the shaft 6 assures the reflux of the fluid,
traversing the bearing 8, and which then is reconducted through the openings l5 into the pump.
The bearings 8 and 9, as well as the step ii, are thus permanently lubricated by a liquid-film derived from the heating water, brought hereafter by centrifugal action towards the propeller I I.
This arrangement produces exceptional reliability in service, due to the permanent presence of a water-film between the mobile and immobile parts which prevents any friction of metal upon metal, thus rendering amount of the wear negligible.
The jacket 5, adjusted between the stator 3 and the rotor 4, assures the fluid tightness of the apparatus and avoids the drawbacks of the usual stuffing-boxes, which considerably restricts the power of the motor.
The pump l is adapted not to oppose any resistance to the passage of the heating water in case the motor should stop. Its working output is, notwithstanding, very high.
Apart from their usual construction, the stator 3 and the rotor 4 may consist of an agglomerate of iron-powder and. appropriate plastics. The rotor 4 may be of vacuum-die casted aluminium or copper. The windings of the stator 3 may be substituted by appropriately connected permanent magnets.
The plug connection being placed at the motor end in 28 greatly facilitates the mounting and connection thereof.
Since there is no friction between the turned parts and the bearings, the operation of the apparatus is absolutely noiseless.
The power consumption of the operating accelerator which increases considerably the circulation of the heating water is very low and whatever power is consumed is more than compensated by the considerable increase of the calorific output of the boiler, provided with such an acce1- erator.
The electro-motor may be replaced by a suitable turbine, fed by the water main, in a closed or open water system, in which case and in order to avoid the mixing of the water from the water main with the circulating heating water, a natural or artificial magnet is interposed between the shaft of both motor and propeller, forming thus a connection of the two shafts.
The accelerator may be used for fluids of all kinds, and may be driven by any appropriate means.
The operation of the circulation accelerator, to be described in greater detail hereinafter is so visually indicating the direction of rotation of shaft when the latter is rotating and for turning the shaft when the latter is not rotating. IThe combined indicating and operating means-is constituted of the following parts:
At the end of the case I ofthe :acceleratorand in the axis of its shaft a tapped projection 16 is provided, adapted to receive a guide comprising a threaded head ll of a flange I8, overtopped by a threaded casing I9 which, in turn, is covered by a nut 20, tightened by means of a gasket 2|. It is to be understood that the described accelerator may be modified in' its' constructional details inany appropriatetmanner within. the scope of the invention.

A device for indicating the direction of revolution of shaft means and for manually turning said shaft means whenever required, comprising, in combination, a casing adapted to enclose at least one end of said shaft means, said casing formed with a bore arranged oppositesaid one end of said shaft means; a bolt serving as a combined indicating and operating means having the same cross-section as said bore and arranged permanently and fluid-tightly in said bore, said bolt serving as a combined indicating and operating means being arranged with one end thereof located in said casing and the other end thereof permanently and visibly located outside of said casing, and being rotat able about its axis and movable along said axis between an inoperative position with said one end thereof spaced from said one end of said shaft, and an operative position when moved farther into said casing and engaging with its said one end said one end of said shaft means, said combined indicating and operating means in said operative position thereof visually indicating the direction of said shaft when the latter is rotating and adapted for rotating said shaft when the same is not rotating; engaging means on said one end of said shaft means and said one end of said bolt serving as a combined indicating and operating means for engaging said shaft means and said bolt member for rotative movement with each other if one of said means is rotated; and means permanently urging said bolt serving as a combined indicating and operating means from said operative into said inoperative position, so that said indicating and operating means is actuated by pushing said means at said other end thereof into said bore of said casing into engagement with said one end of said shaft means.

An arrangement of the character described, comprising, in combination, a fluid-tight casing having a bore; shaft means arranged in said casing and having one end; means rotatably supporting said shaft means in said casing with said one end thereof arranged opposite said bore; an elongated combined indicating and operating means having the same cross-section as said bore and arranged permanently and fiuid tightly in said bore, said elongated combined indicating and operating means being arranged with one end thereof located in said casing and the other end thereof permanently and visibly located outside of said casing, and being rotatable about its axis and movable alc ng said axis between an inoperative position with said one end thereof spaced from said one end ofsaid shaft, and an operative position when moved further into said casing and engaging with its said one end said one end of said shaft means, said combined indicating and operating means in said operating position thereof indicating the direction of rotation of said shaft when the latter is rotating and adapted for rotating said shaft when the latter is not rotating; engaging means on said one end of said shaft means and said one end of said elongated combined indicating and operating means for engaging said shaft member and said elongated means for rotative movement with each other if one of said means is rotated; and means permanently urging said elongated combined indicating and operating means from said operative into said inoperative position, so that said indicating and operating means is actuated by pushing said means at said other end thereof into said bore of said easing into engagement 7 with said one end of said shaft means.

An arrangement of the character described, comprising, in combination, a casing having a bore; shaft means arranged in said casing and having one end; means rotatably supporting said shaft means in said casing with said one end thereof arranged opposite said bore; a bolt serving as a combined indicating and operating means having the same cross-section as said bore and arranged permanently and fluid tightly in said bore, said bolt serving as a combined indicating and operating means being arranged with one end thereof located in said casing and the other end thereof permanently and visibly located outside of said casing, and being rotatable about its axis and movable along said axis between an inoperative position with said one end thereof spaced from said one end of said shaft, and an operative position when moved further into said casing and engaging with its said one end said one end of said shaft means, said combined indicating and operating means in said operating position thereof indicating the direction of rotation of said shaft when the latter is rotating and adapted for rotating said shaft when the latter is not rotating; engaging means on said one end of said shaft means and said one end of said bolt serving as a combined indicating and operating means for engaging said shaft means and said bolt member for rotative movement with each other if one of said means is rotated; and means permanently urging said bolt serving as a combined indicating and operating means from said operative into said inoperative position, so that said indicating and operating means is actuated by pushing said means at said other end thereof into said bore of said easing into engagement with said one end of said shaft means.

An arrangement of the character described, comprising, in combination, a casing having a bore; shaft means arranged in said casing and having a recess at one end; means rotatably sup porting said shaft means in said casing with said one end thereof arranged opposite said bore; a bolt serving as a combined indicating and operating means having the same cross-section as said bore and arranged permanently and fluid tightly in said bore, said bolt serving as a combined indicating and operating means being arranged with an extension located in said casing and the other end thereof visibly and permanently located outside of said casing, and rotatable about its axis and movable along said axis between an inoperative position with said one end thereof spaced from said one end of said shaft, and an operative position when moved further into said casing and engaging with said 7 extensioncofesaid"bolt.said-recess in said one end of said nshaft'z for engaging: said shaft :rmember and said bolt-member for; rotative movement with-each other if one of said members is rotated; and means a permanently-surging: said bolt: serving as a combined indicating and operating means from said operative'zinto said inoperative position, so that saidindicating and operatinglmeans is actuated by, pushing'saidmeansatsaid other end thereof into saidbore of .said casing whereby said extension of: said bolt memberxengagesasaid recess in said shaft means. 7
